Have to agree with those who feel Carlin was a great comic, but has lost his edge (for lack of a better term). I too, loved the album's of the '70's, but his act now is too angry for me. If I want to hear anger, I can listen to my so-called girlfriend after she's drunk, which is most of the time.

Nothing is more susceptible to different tastes than comedians. Not even music. For the record, I'm a big Carlin fan. But regardless, success in one's business tends to speak for itself. 50 years still going strong. Has anyone been going longer in that business? He's done something right.

He's still funny, but he peaked in the 80's in my opinion. My favorite album was called "A Place For Your Stuff" or something like that. I still get a kick out of him because his negativity about everything pisses people off. I heard somewhere that he got really bitter about 10 years back when his wife died.

I thought "a place for my stuff" was mildly entertaining until I heard the same theme throughout the 80's and 90's. He got tired.

I thought "the 7 dirty words you can't say on television" was some of the best stuff I've ever heard but haven't heard much from him since then.

I went to a one of his concerts at a university in the 70's. The sound system was bad and those of us in the upper seats couldn't hear him. Everyone was shouting at him to speak up and he said "fuck you" so half of the upper seats walked out.

About the only funny thing I heard during the whole session was when he explains how single mothers try to be both a mother and a father to their kids and the kid says "ok, then go fuck yourself!"

She's either funnin' or bunnin' or else I'm runnin

nah, don't even get Cosby involved in this. The best black comedian to this day is Richard Pryor.

Wildemu,

Pryor was very talented and a was great, but you must admit that RED FOXX was the godfather of black comedians.

Senile, bitter old man.

Went to see him recently here in Detroit. 1st 10 minutes was laughing my ass off. Than he went on for like 30 minutes about anti-big business, anti-religion, etc. No jokes. Just rambling. People (who paid to see him mind you) started to heckle and boo. Some even got up and left.

My wife never heard of him and after the show looked at me and said "You are kidding about him being funny right?"

You are kidding about your wife never having heard of him, right? Is she younger than maybe 25?

I don't like the guy, but know who he is obviously.

I'm only 30, but have known about Carlin for years. She must not have had HBO as a child. Probably best for her anyway to have not known about the dottering old man.

his last stand-up was depressing and I think that's the one you were referring to. I remember he got stuck on the topic of how people should go kill themselves for about 30 minutes. He didn't look too good either.

I thought the suicide bit was funny as hell. There was one line in there where he was talking about how suicide was scary and he thought it took guts to committ suicide. Carlin said he didnt think he could committ suicide if his life depended on it.
