Doed anyone think Newton can be a legitimate NFL qb?

How does average at best win MVP of the league? He's obviously better than average.

It was a function of the weak schedule, the excellent surrounding cast on "O" and "D"... he can make the big throw, 30 yard laser beams... impressive, but is not a good passer overall, inaccurate, poor touch a lot of the time.

He would have struggled on many teams that 1) played a tough schedule 2) did not have a good OL & running game and 3) did not have a good "D" to get him the ball.

The eye test... he missed SO many open receivers in the Super Bowl, if he had hit a few that would have almost certainly given the Panthers the victory... that most NFL QB's would have hit. This happened all year but was hidden because of the overall success of his surrounding cast.

Leadership... no way of knowing but I wonder if some of his teammates think he is a "leader", though the press says so.

Not top notch, overall average at best.
He is not an accurate passer, the most important attribute for an NFL QB; hits spectacular 30 yard passes, laser beams, sure, but he is not consistently accurate, has no touch.
Panthers played the weakest NFL schedule (#32), played good solid "D", had a good OL and running game, so he was not exposed.
Seattle was asleep til it was 31-0 and Palmer's finger ruined their chances, 4 INT's and 2 fumbles.
So a good team like Denver that made Cam a pocket passer exposed him.
Character, leadership? Backing away from that fumble instead of diving into the pile late in the game will haunt him, his teammates know he is no leader, that narrative is BS. And celebrating like a punk juvenile with a 3-4 TD lead with a few minutes to go.... that is horsesh*t.

I agree. Plus, it seems a lot of folks like to excuse bad behavior. I detest that. He's a punk, that's all there is too it. He has time to redeem himself though. But, right now he's a classless punk who does not win gracefully and does not lose gracefully.

He is legit. who are you comparing him to? Rivers romo dalton Alex smith? I'll take cam. tom Brady would not have taken that panthers team to the Super Bowl let alone win it.

He is black and proud of it. White people with power will NEVER let a man like Cam fully be a true winner. They will constantly hate you and be greater. Look at DeAndre Jordan. What a dumb fuck. Dressing as a woman for a commercial. White people with power LOVE that shit. White people with power are smart too and won't admit to public bashing of other races especially black people.

Lol worst post ever made on this site possibly. It's up there

He's still far better than an average QB, especially when the NFL is in the desperate QB state that it's in right now. That are a lot of teams that would kill to have Cam Newton right now. I'm not saying he's great, just that he's better than average. I'll agree to disagree.

The defenses in the NFL are brutal now days....they try to pound the living-crap out of the QB's (and the wide receivers) to the point where the league (thru the officials) have t protect them. Look what the Denver defense did to Newton (I'll bet he is still black & Blue) from the beating he took during the Super Bowl game. Jordy Nelson of the Packers, one of the best wide receivers in the league) was knocked-out (for the year) during the pre-season games. There are others.

Is Newton a good QB ? Hell yes, and a damn good-one plus he is a "winner". As far as his "off the field antics" go....He'll grow-up one of these years. The owners of the team who sign his pay-check will insist upon it.

59% completion average, can't recognize a hot read, doesn't do that well overall reading defenses, depends on his legs too much. That style is not conducive to longevity in the NFL. Plus, his lack emotional stamina is concerning. I think this was as close as he's ever going to get. Flukey year.

He has to watch his weight.....If he becomes a "fat-ass" living the good-life....his career could be diminished. With all that said, his team(s) do win a lot of
football games when he s playing QB.

How is this even a question? Guy is a drop back passer and not someone who looks to bail if the initial read isn't there. There aren't many quarterbacks I would take over him.

Last years Superbowl....I don't care which NFC team was there but any of those QBs would have looked like crap against that Denver defense, Palmer would have been knocked out of the game for sure with his lack of mobility

Gotta give respect to that Denver D, any AFC QB would have won the SB with it, remember...Manning was just 13 of 23 for 141 yrds, 0 TDs 1 INT, that's why Von Miller got MVP (2.5 sacks too)

is this reasoning an argument for the attributes of Newton?

I think Carolina is their own worst enemy, not a fan of Ron Rivera at all. He needs to calm Cam down and just focus on the game. Never seen so much bitching and moaning by an elite NFL QB, but I guess that's how it goes these days.

He'll never be a champion. In his interview with Tirico last night he even said he hadnt watched the SB tape. He's not a good leader. And makes the teams success, good or bad, about him.

--------------------------
CAM NEWTON WITH MIKE TIRICO
Mike Tirico: How’d you sleep the night after the Super Bowl?
Cam Newton: “Felt like a baby, crying…a lot of tears. I think this whole process has just made me realize that I’m human. You know, after the Super Bowl, I was distraught. I felt down, I felt bad. I cried because that’s the emotions that I had. I wasn’t doing it for the cameras. I really felt as if we had our opportunities and we didn’t maximize it.”
Tirico on Newton’s Super Bowl 50 post-game press conference: “Any regrets about the two and a half minutes, the thirteen questions and what people said afterwards?
Newton: “No regrets…I don’t want to have a sob story to say, ‘Well, I shouldn’t have done that.’ I wouldn’t be in the position I am right now if I would not have done the things I’ve done.”
Tirico: “But Cam, don’t you understand that some people see you after you lose, which you didn’t do a lot of last year, and they say, ‘Where’s the guy who was doing this (gestures) and the dabbin’ and all of that – don’t you have to take the bad with the good, and be better about how you take the bad?”
Newton: “Yes, that’s why I’m embracing this whole process.”
Tirico: “You went the summer without watching the Super Bowl. Why?”
Newton: “Because I didn’t want that feeling to come back until now. It’s not a good feeling. You know I was watching and Dancing with the Stars and certain people there that I’m fans of…”
Tirico: “So that got under your skin – you see him doing the victory tour…not disrespecting him, but it just bothered you that it wasn’t you doing all this?”
Newton: “No that’s not it. It’s just...he can do whatever he wants, but I just know that his team defeated my team. Just seeing him on TV is just what reminded me like, God, he got the better end of the stick.”

Rivera is bitching about having to open the season in Denver, then he's complaining about the refs after a loss on a 50/50 kick. He's supposed to set an example, whatever happened to taking a loss and not making excuses except for what can be controlled and that is your performance?

Another unspectacular day (to be kind) for superman. Although he did reach 60% completion. Three ints don't help much though.
