Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner went to an emergency room Tuesday for treatment of a pimple on his leg that turned into an infection.
Turner was scratched from the Dodgers’ lineup against Oakland on Tuesday night.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Turner felt the problem on his inner right thigh Sunday in New York. He was given antibiotics, but it didn’t heal on the team’s day off Monday.
The Dodgers’ medical staff decided to send him to an emergency room when he showed up for Tuesday’s game and the infection looked worse.
“Over the off day, something went wrong,” Mattingly said. “When he came in today, he was a lot worse. I saw him when I got here.
It was something that kind of blew up, and it wasn’t very pretty, so they sent him to the emergency room. We should know more by the end of the night. … He thought it was a bug bite.”
Mattingly doesn’t know how long Turner will be out.
Turner has been the Dodgers’ most consistent offensive contributor this season with a career-high 13 homers and 44 RBIs. He leads the Dodgers in batting average (.323) and slugging percentage (.563).
