People abuse handouts in every way imaginable. From disability, to welfare, to workers' comp to unemployment.

It's a shame, because fraud helps to bankrupt our Nation.

Once we stop spending on cruise missles and all this bullshit in Iraq like the halliburton rebuild project then maybe it's a legit concern.

Seriously, if we are going to spend millions on a nuclear war missle that wont even be used I dont see the problem giving tim dick or harry 8000 a year.

Jesus, I give a 1/4 of my check, at least I know some of that is going to my people.

It's rediculous. We can't even use our military effectivly we are paying these blackwater guys like 200k a year or something to do what our troops should be doing? I watched that Iraq for profit video and some of the troops are like yeah we show them how to do our job and then we just kind of stand around. I mean what the hell.

Willie. I definatly do not deny a lot of people may be fraudulently collecting SSI and welfare.

The point I am trying to make is we throw away even more money on other stuff that is equally or if not more useless.

You are talking pennies on the dollar in comparison.

Do you think there are some people who cheat on their taxes?

Do you think there are some government officials who get kickbacks?

Statements like that are impossible to disagree with...because as long as there is 2 or 3 you would be right.

My dad is on SSI and also works on the side. He gets the check because he is severely disabled, well I should say disfigured since he gets around really well but is missing some limbs. Unfortunately walking around on prostetics all the time takes its toll on him and causes a lot of sores so he cant work full time but there is no way he can depend on SSI to pay his bills especially with the price of gas and other necessities.

Many people around here are on Disability, but just because they dont want to work EVER. Sure there are some that need it like Nes's dad for example, but there are others that the only problem they have is they would rather collect government money, do drugs, and never have to work...EVER.

Punter, IMO the real fraud of that is the FDA not allowing of competitive drug pricing.

It's all set up so the big time investors make a mint off the monopolization of manufacturers of drugs via government control. It's just silly. Why not let Canada into the picture? I don't get it.

Good example is something like Celebrex. I mean it's comical just to listen to this commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GvYI4VdVEI and guess what, it costs a lot of money.

Los Angeles County expects to save more than $85 million from an eight-year program to track welfare recipients and reduce the ability for some to "double dip" for more benefits than they deserve from the county-and soon from anywhere in the state.

This story is old, and it's hard to find a national story on this topic. However, if LA County alone can save 8.5 millions dollars per year by implementing some new system, I can only surmise the nation would save billions of dollars annually.

That's welfare fraud alone. Throw in liability insurance fraud, disability fraud, worker's compensation fraud, medical insurance claims fraud, unemployment benefits fraud and tax fraud, and the costs are hundreds of billions annually, not chump change.

No asshole! My dad is a disabled Vietnam Vet. I mean sure he would rather not work, and the people in the work place should be glad, you know he doesn't belong there. He does likes his drugs and government money too.
