Does anybody out there know of any PROFESSIONAL sports bettors who buy selections from sports services or buy tout sheets on a weekly basis? Do you think this is a good idea?

No pro would waste time or money with that. It is hard enough to make profits. Cutting into them with expenses on tout picks or info would make them (or anyone else) finish a loser in the long run.

There might be some small exceptions to this. Buying a football or basketball annual for $6.95, etc. might be worth it just for the amount of info it has.

Good question Charlie. Good post as well. Thanks

If i could call myself a PROFESSIONAL, then I may consider a service as they are not that expensive and could prove useful for fades and rides.

Charlie, thats like asking if anyone makes their living getting scammed. Touts are scam artists. Its a business that only scam hustlers survive in.

I know of at least ONE who has made deals with several services who have proven themselves over time.

But WTF do I know?

Oh, anyone interested in seeing the Hilton leaderboard can go here (okay, so it's only week 1, but I'm still stoked) :

When I got into SB I looked at some free "pick of the week" websites. I couldn't believe the number and frequency of phone calls I got from an outfit who said they were located in Las Vegas. These people were really desperate to get my money.

So the logic is obvious, if they were any good they would take their money and bet instead of wasting their time calling me.

After 3 weeks of taking their abuse they finally figured it out and left me alone.

Some pro sports bettors have paid handicappers that work for them. More or less doing the grunt work of breaking down stats, keeping track of injuries, moving money, and who knows what else. Many also use publications like Northcoast, Pointwise, The Gold Sheet and others for help. I don't know of any that will call up any of Jim Fiest's crew for their 50 star specials though.

Charlie, Its best to ignore the scum of the posting forum known as Sr Muny. He has already been banned once for his attack posts. He's kind of like a rash you just hope goes away.

Thanks guys.

Yes, that really is ME at the top of the Hilton leaderboard. Like I said, though, it's only week 1 - LONG way to go (but I will admit that I am more excited about being on top of the leaderboard than I thought I would be, especially since it is basically meaningless at this point).

And, I realize that I am in the minority, but personally, I don't mind paying services for their plays, opinions, and write-ups, if I feel they are worthwhile. I realized a long time ago that no one person has the time to fully look into all aspects of each game on the board. So, I feel that it is worthwhile to get opinions from others whom I respect. I worked for years as a computer consultant with people paying me for my opinions of what they should do in order to better perform operations, or writing code to perform thos operations. I don't see this as any different. I guess people who say that touts can't win and wouldn't have to be paid if they did could argue that I shouldn't have been paid, and if my opinions and coding were good, I could have just opened up shop for myself.

I know I'm not around a lot, still have a bunch of things going on, but I will make a point of posting my plays - thus dooming them to failure
