Taking off your shoes to try and protect a floor has always seemed awfully prissy to me.

Funny, but still a filthy habit, and its not about saving the floor.

In the US somebody might steal your shoes if left outside. I leave them inside the door.

growing up in Hawaii, but i think its mostly and asian culture thing, but everyone takes their shoes off. Not to be a priss about hacking up floor, but for respect to not tract dirt around the house. But always get stank feet, and an odd smell lurking near the door. Especially when someone puts their feet up on furniture. Even in "Haole" people's house when they leave their shoes on, still take um off.

I keep house slippers and smoking jackets in the closet in the entry way and require eac visitor to change before enetering my home

of course you should take off your shoes and i expect my guests to aswell...people who wear shoes in the house are dirty ...who wants a dirty floor? would you let your kid crawl on a floor where everyone walks around with their shoes on? you can usually tell when walking in to someone's house if they wear their shoes its usually filthy, im european and we do not wear our shoes in the house in most of europe you definitely must take off your shoes..

and people with stank feet WTF is up with that how does that happen wash your feet!! people wear shoes with no sox and then their shoes stink.......I've never smelt my feet in my life, you know what the triick is wash your feet at least once a day and wear sox with shoes

I'm Chinese so in Chinese culture you always take off your shoes. When I go over to a friend's house, if I don't take off my shoes, I feel weird walking around a house with shoes on.

Also imagine how dirty the bottom of your shoes are. All that unthinkable stuff on the bottom.

It is just the way it is here in Thailand...you take your shoes off in any home....you get used to it...
