The books don't stay in bussiness because the majority of the people win.

can honestly say that I am up "lifetime" in all my gambling endeavors. How I pulled that out playing casino games is beyond me

Also remember that the average poster here is maybe a little "sharper" than most. At minimum, they know about low juice, what parlay/teaser payouts should be, and how to shop lines. I've met a lot of gamblers that will lay -120 on NFL sides without knowing the difference, when they can get -107 and a half point better somewhere else...these are the people that keep the books very happy.

Gamblers are the biggest liars and bullshiters on the planet, hell most of them even start to believe themselves. The responses to this Topic proves it!!!

35% make a living out of gambling here - from what i've seen of the posts, i very much doubt it. Come on guys be honest here - i reckon about 20% lose your shirt, about 40% lose about 5%, 35% make a bit and MAYBE 5% make a living but that has got to be top end estimate.

I doubt theres more then 0,01% that makes a living of sportsbetting only, but I do believe that the percentage that lives of gambling gets higher and higher. Especially in the world of online poker.

According to this poll.. close to 80% of the posters here make money, or break even.. Then my question is.. how the hell do the books continue to stay in business if 80% win or break even at worst..

Something is not right here..

the results of this poll could be accurate. contrary to what sick gambler said, the poll does not show that "close to 80% of the posters here make money, or break even." its not representative of all the posters on this board. so you can't extrapolate the numbers to mirror the entire board. it just says those are the results of the people who respond, so its a self-selecting group. who is more likely to respond to this kind of poll? people who do well probably.

im' just as skeptical as any of you, because i don't think those numbers reflect true #'s. but i'm saying it doesn't necessarily mean people aren't responding honestly.

just a thought

This actually may be right Sick.....or close to it. Remember, the people that have voted in this poll are forum everydayers sort of speak. They may be very small players who grind out a profit through contests, bonuses, etc., etc. And to answer your question, the posters that have lost money, lose in a BIG way and more than make up for the penny and nickel winners. I can also relate to this first hand, because I would venture at least 80% of the posters that have come to know at the RX and through MSN are definetly winners.......yourself obviously being one of them.

"I lose my shirt gambling. Who's the other 3 besides me?"

Pat, is that the reason so many posters live in the south and west? it would get damn cold living in the north with no shirt.

i've been gambling 18 years - lost money for first 6/7 years and have made money ever since and am well ahead but not enough to make a living from. i know how much i put in so i doubt 65% of you do the same.
