Do you have a problem with Steve Nash saying he "wants the money"

Steve Nash has appeared in just 10 games this season for the Los Angeles Lakers. The two-time MVP and future Hall of Famer has battled leg and back injuries all season, leading to widespread discussion among fans and media that he should hang it up.
Nash doesn’t see it that way. In a new Grantland video documenting his recovery, he lays it out in simple terms:
“The reality is, I’m not going to retire because I want the money.”

What's wrong with that? It's a roll of the dice on his health and the lake show shot craps..

As long as there is someone that sees value he deserves every dam penny.. guy spent the first 10 year s of his profession in OBSCURITY... Nash is a class act and 1 of the best cats out there...

I don't mind it, they paid him a guaranteed 3 years and he wants to get all of that. He just went through a divorce and knows he can't ever make 10mill a year again in his life.

However, I 100% have no doubt if this wasn't Steve Nash and was someone else a little more polarizing, then a lot of people would have a problem with it.

It is funny he just cameout and said it though. He can't even move on the court but he is guaranteed 10M for next year so he will pretend he is trying to comeback.

The guy has made in the neighborhood of 150 mill. Avarice is a corrupting character trait. No one should want money for a job they can't / won't do.

What happened to honor and integrity in this society?

Leave the money on the table and retire with dignity.

Haha... Yes, I'm sure it's all about his kids.

The Lakers gave him the contract - of course he should try to play it out (and reap the rewards).

Can he be amnestied?

nah they used their amnesty on MWP.

Amnestying him wouldn't do them any good anyway, if you amnesty someone you still have to pay them. They just don't count against the salary cap.

I do think he is taking it to a pretty big extreme considering he can't even get on the court and when he does get on the court he clearly doesn't belong there, however, he did get killed in that divorce sounds like.

It is an interesting discussion, like I said if it wasn't someone that is mostly beloved and revered like Steve Nash, I think the person would be getting ripped a lot more.

Right - isn't that the issue, though? I assume the Lakers have plenty of money to part with, but the same number as every other team before the tax kicks in...

I do agree 100% that he's getting off easy as far as his image goes.

yeah it isn't really an issue for the lakers.

I'm sure if they really wanted they could lean on him to sit and have his insurance pay for like 80% of his salary.

The issue is just him saying what he said. He basically can't play pro basketball anymore and he is hanging on trying to get every last penny of his deal. Some people think of this as unethical, some don't...

I personally think if the Lakers didn't wanna pay him for 3yrs they shouldn't have signed him to a 3yr deal. He was 38 or whatever at the time, they knew what they were getting themselves into. Also they print more $ than a colombian cartel so I'm guessing they aren't too worried about it since they're tanking at the moment anyway. However, this offseason when they could be in the hunt for FAs if his deal is holding them up then it is possible they could lean on him to retire...

How about Kobe and his 6 games played, making $30 mil?

Wasn't there a baseball player (Reds?) some years ago who refused his salary when he couldn't play? Sure doesn't happen often.

Someone ask Steve Smith, or Demarcus Ware about integrity in sports. It's all about the money. Good for nash being honest about his situation.

Yes, all wealth is accumulated by cheating/stealing from poor people. Talk about delusion.

Guy made over a hundred million in the nba. He should have been wearing a ski mask to cash his checks the past 2 years. If a black player said this...you would hear the word thug everywhere.

Doesn't matter what he wants, nobody is going to pay this broken down "has-been"...Lakers need to quit giving outlandish contracts to over-the-hill players, decision to throw a bunch of money at Kobe has also blown up in their face..

Nash doesn't make an outlandish amount of money.

Kobe was paid out of respect and because of what he has done for the Lakers
