If you want to the idea of 'No' across to a dog, then you need to discipline them like their Mom's did. Basically, firmly hold the loose skin behind the dogs mouth in both your hands. Shake {not too hard}, the dog's head back and forth while staring directly into her eyes and speaking to her in a low growling type voice. This is similar to how Mother dogs keep their puppies in line.
Police and guard dogs are often trained using similar methods. The idea is not to hurt the dog, but to establish dominance.

still struggling with this. Reviewed this thread and will put some tricks to use. Today has been a bad day, not good when you live in "the burbs".

One suggestion, large plastic bucket and everytime she barks throw it against the concrete or bang it and yell no whatever word you use to correct her. The smacking with the newspaper wont work. Shock collars do work, and stop the problem fast, but it is hard to do to your dog. They also sell spray collars which are almost the same, but dont recommend them.

One sure way to get a dog quiet is surgery. It's humane, effective and it makes you a responsible neighbor.

If a dog barks when the owner is gone, the least they could do is put the dog inside or better yet doggy daycare.

Works for my 2 Jack Russel's.
Everytime Billsgirl and I work them out at the lake for an hour or more, they are 90 percent angels for the rest of the day.

I don't want our babies with the collar, but if works for the another dog owner, and it's not cruel, I have no problems with it.

I have a 7 year old German Shephard female and the last few months she barks at any and everything that walks by my fence. Nothing to scary as there is a house between my backyard and the sidewalk, so it is more annoying than anything.

Not sure what to do other than add a privacy fence to slow her down. I yell at her to stop but she is forcing to me get up from my computer everytime and that is cutting into my RX time (LOL). She is an indoor dog but when I am home (which seems to be alot lately) I leave the door open and she comes and goes as she pleases. I don't want to leave her inside all day with me.

I always thought bark collars were a little rough. Any advice?

This will take time, but you need to keep her on a leash, preferably with a choke chain. Each time she does something to your disliking correct her immediately and make her submit to you, by either laying down or sitting down, without her brushing up against you. Do NOT reward her. If you have trouble getting her to submit, use two fingers to jab her in the neck. Dog's neck each other for domiance and by using your two fingers, you are establishing domiance.

You will have to work with her on this. It may take some time, but eventually she will understand that fence fighting and fence barking is not acceptable.
