Funny thing in Southern California you only see the white and black people out there holding up give me money signs on the freeway corners. While the mexicans are selling strawberries, or roses or holding up a sign of their own that says "free cell phone" or "tax returns".

I don't know about you but I would rather hold up a sign advertising "free cell phone" getting paid hourly then holding up one that says "spare some change" getting paid commission.

HAHA like Bucy said they are always on the same corner here in the D. Bucy would this happen to be of the Southfield at 8 mile.

I used to always see this women that was homeless at the church right outside Greektown Casino downtown. If I saw her I would give her a few bucks. She would always say thankyou and God bless. Atleast she seemed to know that I didn't have to give her money.

If they wanted to some honest hard work they would just wait outside of Home Depot for some day labor.

Got to give them credit for holding their tongue when they asked and get denied a handout. I would be cussing motherfuckers out if I spent my whole day begging for shit and kept hearing no. $5 ain't worth 50 no's.

Some homeless guy got me outside a 7-11 a few weeks ago and asked if I could buy him some milk and donuts. I did and that was it. Looked like he was traveling.

It also depends on the bum but I mostly never give money.

I thought to myself that if I ever ended up in that position, I would just join the Army.

not always an option....you'd have to be under 30 or so, not have a record, be physically fit, etc.

The homeless in this country still live like kings compared to poor Africans, poor Chinese, and poor South Americans. If not for our government shutting down slumlords these people would have a place to stay.

A lot of bad karma in this thread.
Especially from people who give away their money on ballgames.

I was walking down the street in Manhatten once and there was a bum holding a sign that said "NEED MONEY FOR DRUGS AND BOOS." I thought his sign was very original and very honest. I gave him a 20 spot

I know of a "bum" I give money to whenever I see him. He was the driver of the school bus my wife and I used during middle school and he drove for our district for at least 25 years. He is in his mid 60's and lost his job to Glaucoma. Whenever he begs for money he walks from my hometown to the town I live in now which is a 27 mile hike. He doesn't beg everyday but one might see him 2-3 times a week with a sign.
I don't know his whole life story but he is a vet and gets some money from the VA. He does live in a hotel but I'm not sure of the arrangements. Some might view what he does as pathetic, but I say he has a strong will to survive.

Last year here in the South East, we had an especially harsh winter. For about 10 days in a row, it got down below 10 degrees at night and never really warmed up during the day. One guy I knew of slept in a tent behind a garage next to a railroad track. People would buy him breakfast in the mornings. He started being a complete asshole to some people later on and expected you to buy him things and would even get hostile if you did not offer. He finally got a restraining order from the restaurant's owner and I have never seen him again. He had some serious problems.

I hear ya .... I was at the bash in aug... and when I was walking across the skybridge from PH to ARIA I saw a lady looked really bad in the heat siting on the bridge... I gave her 5$ 2 days in a row each time I walked by... yeah im sure it was an act but its whats in your heart that counts in the end. You give from the heart
