Do you believe that handicapping helps you pick winners at a higher percentage than following your gut?

Hey Defying. I would say that most people on here believe they are 'handicapping" when all they are doing is "following their gut".

So it is hard for them to answer the question. The two ways are one in the same for them. AND..... they are NEVER betting and significant money anyway. And never have!

Can't cap Luck. Never have and never will be able to do it. And that my friends is always the deciding factor.

Hey Matty. Would you agree that your statement becomes even more true since people insist on betting FAR too many games?

Handicapping involves a lot of things, and instinct is a big part of it.

I've lost plays after having spent days handicapping every last aspect of it, and have won plays that I put in 30 seconds before kickoff on a whim. Luck is a big factor, but not every game comes down to lucky breaks.

You know when you've handicapped a game right or wrong. Sometimes, games play out exactly as I envisioned them. Other times, they are the exact opposite.

Over the course of about 100 games, my theory you'll win about a third and lose a third no matter what. Some bounces will go your way, others won't. Those last 33-ish games is where your handicapping ability is put to the test. If you follow closely enough and really put in the necessary time, hitting 20 out of 33 isn't unreasonable IMO.

strongly disagree. Although Luck has had a huge affect on it all... Being prepared, taking time to understand the line and find advantages has been a significant part of my NFL success.

My brother only bets the NFL & never caps & won 20k last season betting only parlays. He doesn't have years like this every season but goes to show you that you don't need to.

I on the other hand think capping is needed to a certain point. What you don't want to do is over cap a sport/games & then your head is spinning. Always leave yourself doubt that you could be wrong about the side that you want to bet.

He who admits they know nothing, admits they know something about everything & he who admits they know everything, admits they know nothing about what's going on.

I myself know nothing, in fact I know less than nothing, if I knew i knew something, that would something, but the fact that I don't know anything suggests I know something :)

Out of 16 NFL games per week, you have about 4 games that can go either way because of luck/bounce of the ball.

I know you do. And you "Luck is what happens" is bullshit when it comes to sports betting... -You can't prepare for 21 point comebacks with 3 minutes to play, a half-court buzzer beater, a shitty referee call, the list goes on and on...

You cap because you love to do it. For me, it's a waste of time. I can tell you within a few minutes if I want to play a game or not.

Far too many games and lack of Money Management (I've been guilty before too).

But hey, no one has to agree with me. According to a lot, this is the place to be for CFB. People here spend all year capping, reporting, and whatever else they do. I spend 5 minutes and enjoy all the games and stay right beside them in the results department. Works for me...

The size of the bet has no outcome on the results whatsoever, whether you're a "capper" or a feel player.
