Do Writeups Really Matter? Can't One Make Just As Good An Arguement For The Opposite Side Every Time?

Do you prefer writeups when reading and/or following someone else's plays?

I know it's interesting to see or hear someone's reasoning behind a play, but in all reality someone can come up with just as good of reasons the other side or total will cover as well.

Besides, if the player has a pretty good history, does it really matter how he came to his conclusion?

Depends on who it is. You can argue anything both ways but if I think the guy knows what he is talking about it then I could go for a write-up. If its someone who is just writing up for the hell of it and doesn't know their shit they just come off as a jackass.

I think I would rather lose my eyesight then read a Mr. Flav right up. Nothing against the guy but thats a lot of writing.

Although it's easy to counter a writeup, it also shows that the person making the play knows what they are talking about and isn't just pulling the play out of his ass. It takes a long time to build a record where people can honestly believe a handicapper knows his shit so until the threshold is met, I think a writeup is a good way to show it's not just a dartboard special.

I agree with Most.....It could go either way. I used to do some Write-up throw a few Stats, etc....
But I just think most don't care.....I mean, if there was some Special kind of Inside Info, and you Post it. They will Bash you anyway !

I now like to talk about a few games, Check out the line moves and then Post my Play.

I think writeups are pointless because of what hache said....arguments can always be made for both sides....games can win/cover and not play out anything like the writeup....and sometimes lose while playing out like forecasted.

I think valuable information that others might not be aware of (Tom Brady caught the clap or coach on the hot seat wants to cover) is far better than the traditional writeups (history of teams, home vs. road tendancies).

Stuff that I like is when someone mentions an injury that isn't being talked about or a coaching decision that is only known to the local media.....explanation of systems are appreciated as well. It is the unusual info that I like, not the everyday shit i can find on espn

I like writeups if they make sense.

I like facts, or near facts. Advanatges at certain positions ie: huge size advanatge in the pain, or quick guards advanatge.

I dont really care for people saying "and i really think roy williams will get his guys up for this game" That type of stuff you could make the arguement for either side with that logic.

Writeups are a waste of time, If you know a capper is Hitting at a 60% clip, and you trust them as a respected poster,,,,That means more than a writeup that has 2 sides to it.

Again Your obviously doing SOME DUE Diligence if your Hitting at +60%

Well I will rarely follow anyone elses picks first of all.

But I would ONLY follow someone's picks if they did post a thoughtful writeful detailing why they like that selection. No reason to follow the poster if he cant explain why he took that play

I won't blindly play a posters play.
I will let a poster influence my play if he follows his pick with insight.

Any idiot can start a thread "Lock City, Ball State"
and don't follow up as to why.

If I come across a write up that is filled with mistakes it will be a fade play for me.

Bill, Po, are you saying that if FISH came in here and posted guys Iowa will lose tonight. Ive ran my numbers and I am sure they wont cover.

your telling me you would give FISH LESS thought, than some guy named LOCKSFORLIFE (made up name) posting,

" guys iowa is 10-3 on the road against non divisional matchups, also whenever they travel for more than 2 hours they are 60-10 lifetime. Iowa wins tonight!!"

your telling me you would trust a poster with that name that has Under 50 posts??? and Play ON Iowa? thats foolish.

The best thing about the writeups is they can help you down the road too. Buffettgambler's writeups were gold.

Well again, I do NOT follow other posters plays. I play my own plays each day. I am not real sure that fish is a great handicapper anyway as I havent seen too many of his plays.

But without writeups, picks threads are useless in my opinion

I think you are very dillusional if you think write-ups don't mean anything. There are some very good cappers I read in these forums. And the good ones will give you a legimitate reason why they like or dislike a team. The really good ones will point out things to you that the average bettor may not think about. Things like teams who have lost or gained line value resulting from the games they played in previous weeks. Teams coming off extra hard games and then going back on the road as favorites. There are a million things I could list here. Sure you can get an argument on both sides. But after you've done this for awhile, you start to know which arguments are better than others. And if both sides have a good argument then you leave the game alone. Simple as that. Now what do you get out of somebody who is just posting numbers? If they're 60% on the season, are they 60% because they're lucky or good? You don't know unless you know what's going on inside that cappers head.

I have never read a post of yours before GOSOONERS, but you are right on target here.
