Hey guys if there are 100 college teams, that means 500 starters in hoops, HOW MANY OF THE 500 DO YOU THINK WAGER ON OR AGAINST THERE TEAM?? How many have connections to a college campus bookie?? I think the ratio if we could find out would drive you crazy!! Wonder how many college kids have offshore accounts, lol?? Tens of thousands probably!!

Athletes that actually gamble? I would say less than 10%.

Atheletes that are aware of the point spread in the game they are involved it? 90% or higher definitely, even if they don't check themselves I am sure the student body remind them day in day out.

Ok, see I believe the # to be higher on gamblers and yes the student body does REMIND the players of the lines! Especially the ones who need the hook at the end of a game!

HTRC,
If so many know the lines on their games do you think it would effect the outcome even though they don't gamble??

Yeah I do, lets say all week the players on Team A hear that they are 9 point pick vs Team B although their focus is and should be squarely on the game I believe that inevitably during the last few minutes of a game they have in hand the thought does cr0ss their minds. Its a product of the maturing process as well.

It doesn't help that the student body is yelling out the point spread as well in the final minute or minutes.

Do college ahtletes gamble???

Is a frog's ass water tight?

Sure they do.... but I will wager that lately some of what was going into sports wagering is now going to play more and more poker on campus.

What with all the shows all over TV.

What, exactly, are you saying about the V-Tech/Rutgers game? You sure seemed to have the inside scoop on the Rutgers/Syracuse game.

Don't try to make it look like I know something, lol, cause I don't! Follow me if you wish!! This is whats told to me ,not by a player but by a third party!

EVERYONE gambles in college , so why would athletes be any different. If I was playing, and knew my team was gonna stomp all over another team, and I had no $ why wouldn't I bet my team?

If you have no $, then you can't afford to lose any $. And you don't "KNOW" that your team is going to win.

bryan305,
Almost EVERY college in America has a "CAMPUS BOOKIE", and you don't need money to make money ! Its very easy to lose compared to win and cover!

Not as much as people think. Blacks dont bet on sports, usually rich white kids. Of all the athletic teams its the golf team that gambles. The most spread conscious team in coll hoops by far for the last 10 years is Duke.

WOW Railbird you don't think black kids from a low income family won't bet on there own team to lose, lol, think again. This isn't a color situation, its a problem in colleges throughout the nation, black, white, spanish, chinese etc!!

I have had many many friends who have played major college ball. I was told that the FBI comes in every year before the season starts to lecture them about the problems that they will have if they are caught gambling. I know that those lectures had a serious impact on my friends who played ball. They all didn't do it. I am sure, however, that many others ignore the lectures and do it anyway. I bet it's not as far reaching as people may think it is.

Bob Knight once said on Up Close that if we only knew the extent of cheating in college hoops, we would be shocked/amazed. This comment was made years ago. With the availability of internet now, I am certain it has not gotten any better.
