I remember hanging out at Leroy's or Santa Anita's back when you could get your hot dog comped! LOL! How about house quinellas, anybody still book 'em? Probably not!:sad3: They might have to actually try to be bm's again! The old horseshoe shaped bar at Caesar's back in the day had the best girls too! The girls are the only thing left that still resemble the old days! Nowadays , the cocktail waittresses are ready for social security! Vegas sucks! There! Have a nice day!:toast:

The Sport Of Kings went out'a business due to serious mismanagement and other issues. It wasn't because of booking horses in LV. I booked my own at the Stardust and never had a losing month in the eight years I was there.....Scotty

You know I miss the little things about Vegas from the old days. I miss Little Caesars, Churchill Downs, Gary Austin’s, Silver Slipper and as you pointed out the original Leroy’s. I miss the days when the board at the Stardust was turned by real human hands. I still remember when the number change would be called over the P.A. and you’d see the guy’s silhouette behind the big board high above open up those huge doors and manually change the number. Shoot I’m so old I remember when a ticket writer did just that and literally wrote out your ticket.

I also remember going to a sports book in “the good old days” and sitting on fold out wooden chairs. Through the chocking clouds of cigar smoke you might be able to see three or four 21 inch televisions, (in living color no less). On a good day, if the wind was right, they might be able to pick up two different games on local stations. The ticker, (if they had one) would always run ten minutes late. I still remember ticket writers listening to Dodger broadcasts by radio to give timely updates on the board.

You know what? You can keep your comped hot dogs…..I’ll take the 21<SUP>st</SUP> century.

Sport of Kings went under because they thought nobody could beat racing on a regular basis and they were paying a 10% bonus on all winning wagers

Those boards, their conception (Lefty Rosenthals) and the crew who worked up there is a story in itself. Lefty was way ahead of the times. Those boards were an absolute work of genius, espicially the horse boards.
There are many hillarious storys from "up there" but probably the funniest involved Bobby "the beard" LaPore who worked in the sports board room, at least till this happened. It was a Friday, Bobby puts the following message on the boards, locks up and leaves:

REAGAN ENDS WELFARE: CREATS 5,000 NBA TEAMS
