DLong's NHL Picks (Follow Success at Your Own Risk)

Hello Followers,

I am new to THIS site but old to capping the sport. I was a member of ZCode for many years but decided that it was ridiculous to pay a site in order to give MY picks. Both my CBB and NHL systems have numerous filters each and every game must pass in order for it to become a play. These systems have been back-tested repeatedly and many factors are taken into account. College Basketball and NHL picks are my prize possessions and I have yielded greatly from both sports. There's just something about the winter sports! I have capped CBB for 6 years with 5 of those 6 years being positive investments. 2012 was my best year in CBB yielding $+6,444. I have capped NHL for 5 years with last year being my best yielding $+3,642. I will post my picks here daily as long as followers play them. Let me put it this way, I'll cash in...I hope you do too! Let's start off the day right!

4:05 ET
Nashville (+1.5 -265) @ LA Kings

As long as Rinne is between the pipes today, I see absolutely no reason why we shouldnt take advantage of the Preds. 3 of my 7 NHL systems have the Preds winning outright. The Preds are coming off of 5 days rest which will be much needed heading into the gauntlet of the western conference. Im not completely sold on J. Quick and I have to lay my money on something that I can trust. I can see this one going to OT without a doubt but Ill give some leeway and take the puckline!

I will RARELY lay cash on a favorite more than -250 but I will say it's happened before. With that being said, I do like the New York Rangers tonight but -330 is VERY steep. I do however see them handling business with Lundqvist between the pipes and a red hot Rangers squad. If you are "ballsy" enough then lay the chalk but I will definitely sit back and watch.

More than likely this will be my final play of the night in NHL, however, you can check out my CBB thread where I will be posting games as the data from the comps spit it out. I suspect this will be a high scoring affair. With that being said, I feel more comfortable with Kuemper between the pipes. My data leans to an OT game so that says take the puckline in my opinion.

It's a loaded card tonight in the NHL but after reviewing the data that the computers spit out, there's really only two games that pass my filters. I have been a big fan of laying money on the St. Louis Blues in the past two seasons and especially this year. The Blues have a solid offense with guys that skate extremely well but I think my favorite thing about this team is that they put up a lot of shots on goal. Statistically speaking, as we all know, the greater the shots on goal, the greater chance of scoring. I also like Brian Elliott between the pipes for the Blues. The only thing that I can see affecting the Blues tonight would be coming out of the gauntlet of the Western Conference. This is their final road game after a 4 game road stint on the West coast and I believe that's why we're getting the Blues at a relatively cheap price. Check back around 4 pm ET for confirmed picks but, for now, I will post my leans on the day:

Great night for both CBB and NHL! 1-0 in CBB with Villanova ML covering comfortably after 10 minutes into the 2nd half. 2-0 in NHL tonight with Nashville playing strong hockey in the 3rd period and Detroit playing a strong 3rd period as well. Cashing for 12.5 Units in a night is an excellent day of investing! Hope you all followed!

Majority of my data has upset alert tonight in Anaheim. The Rangers are the hottest club in hockey right now in my opinion. With Lundqvist in the net tonight against Bryzgalov, I can honestly see the Rangers being the favorite by faceoff. I'm jumping on it ASAP!

The computers have been spot on! As predicted, the Rangers upset the Ducks in Anaheim. Our Rangers +1.5 cashes easily in their 4-1 victory. I'm not sure there's a hotter club than the Rangers in the NHL right now. I watched the entire game and they're playing exceptional hockey by peppering the opposing goalie with shots, playing great defense and simply out skating their opponents. Great pick to end the night! Not only did we cash in NHL tonight but also went 2-0 in CBB as well! 12.5 Units total tonight!

Is this system based entirely off of computers or is there a human element to it as well? Good start on the forum so far! Keep it up!

The "computers" that I use are simply filters that I have created myself. I have created 9 different filters for both CBB and NHL. I take numerous factors into account when creating a filter. For example, I have a road favorite filter. In that filter I'll enter numerous factors on how the team is playing throughout the season, on the road, in previous games, etc.. Of course I won't give all the information away but I will say that all those are entered in and calculated daily. The degree of confidence on games comes with however many filters the game passes. Of course every game doesn't qualify for all the filters but they are entered accordingly. After the data is completed, I analyze it and give my sports opinion on the game and then post it. Simply put, it's a lot of calculation with the finishing touches being my opinion on the data that I calculate. Hope that helps man!

Not just overly excited about tonight's NHL card. Lots of games but I see a couple that spell trap. With that being said, I'm going to pass on tonight's card. I've said this before and I'll say it again, it's all about the quality of plays in my opinion. The data doesn't yield anything worth laying money on. Til tomorrow!

Which ones are a trap?

The trap games or potential trap games that I would especially be careful with would be America's team, Chicago Blackhawks, @ Minnesota Wild. One reason I see Chicago being such a favorite on the road is because of their shut out loss at Colorado and they don't lose consecutive games very often. But, -165 @ Minnesota, a team that plays well at home, is a steep price in my opinion. I would also watch out for San Jose @ St. Louis. San Jose is playing good hockey of late.
Of course nothing is promised, haha! If it were we'd either all be rich or Vegas wouldn't be a business! St. Louis and Chicago could both come out and beat the brakes off of their opponents but my data and calculations arent giving anything worth playing tonight.
