I'm not one that is into the beauty and beast type of theme. But, all around it was by far the best movie of the year. I expected them to give it to three billboards in a year they wanted to represent powerful women. But, I guess for best picture they do it legit. It definitely should have been Shape of Water.

I haven't seen it yet either.

On DVD next Tuesday...

It's available on Amazon Prime. But not sure if you can rent it, only purchase it.

Silly concept ... but well done. Directed and produced very well. Great time piece. Just not my kind of movie and I won't watch it again

Most of the best picture winners didn't deserve it

Saving private Ryan lost to Shakespeare in love

Enough said

If Hollywood insiders think it's good, it probably sucks

The Shape of Water picked up scattered, significant prizes here and there — wins at the Directors Guild and Producers Guild were crucial — but compared to other, buzzier contenders like Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name, this retro romance took a mostly under-the-radar path to worldwide box-office riches and, ultimately, the Academy’s top prize. All the credits go to Guillermo del Toro for such a great efforts

Really tough call between Billboards and Shape of Water but I’d give it to Billboards. Both very good.

Both movies had good supporting roles. As good as Sam Rockwell was in his Michael Shannon in Shape/Water was a close second.

Equate this scenario to when Forrest Gump won the best picture over Shawshank Redemption....

1994’was the best year for movies in my lifetime.

Shawshank, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Dumb and Dumber all in the theater at the same time .

There has never been 4 movies of that quality in the cinama at one time

I watched Three Billboards last night. I liked it...it had the Cohen Brother feel and McDormand was great but I wasn't satisfied with the ending. I wanted closure.

If Hollywood insiders think it's good, it probably sucks

Revenant got only 80% rotten tomatoes but was favored -170ish to win. Spotlight got a 97% and won.

I think the Oscar's pays more attention to the art of the film more than anything else, at least for best picture. They don't do that with the golden globe.
