Definitions of Terrorism in the U.S. Code

18 U.S.C. § 2331 defines "international terrorism" and "domestic terrorism" for purposes of Chapter 113B of the Code, entitled "Terrorism”:

"International terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S., or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum.*
"Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.
18 U.S.C. § 2332b defines the term "federal crime of terrorism" as an offense that:

Is calculated to influence or affect the conduct of government by intimidation or coercion, or to retaliate against government conduct; and
Is a violation of one of several listed statutes, including § 930(c) (relating to killing or attempted killing during an attack on a federal facility with a dangerous weapon); and § 1114 (relating to killing or attempted killing of officers and employees of the U.S.).
* FISA defines "international terrorism" in a nearly identical way, replacing "primarily" outside the U.S. with "totally" outside the U.S. 50 U.S.C. § 1801(c).

Why aren't the racebaiters listed as terrorists? Those recently involved in the Mike Brown thing.... They caused more harm then anything in the past decade

This report is really stretching the definition of terrorism. Terrorism is basically mass murder accompanied by blackmail. But the purpose of terrorism is to force a government and its society into submission, and that's the missing ingredient here. The scum who formed al Queda calculated in their own minds that if they could murder 400,000 Americans we would "Submit" to the will of Allah. So basically for AQ it was, "Look at what we just did to you. You thought you were invincible. If you don't "Submit" we will attack again and again until you do!" These jihadis are all of the same mindset.

Now let's look at the right wing extremists. These guys are social outcasts. Losers in life who have had misfortune and failure. To absolve themselves of blame for their failures it's someone elses' fault, like the government. They somehow see the government as infringing upon them and they want to live outside its laws and societal norms. But unlike islamic terrorists these guys are not of the same mindset. They all are angry failures for a different and non-united set of circumstances. They probably couldn't get along with each other well enough to form a cohesively large organization. That's why you hear the term "Lone Wolf" so often. I just don't get worried about a bunch of white guys blowing up a jet because they hate to wait in line at the DMV.

Yep... Here comes the name calling.

By definition those involved in the aftermath of the Mike Brown death are considered terrorists by the US definition. You are saying they didn't use violence to try and push their brigs on the government to submit to their beliefs?

The people we should really fear are right in front of our faces.

I question the source here. I have experience with The Sovereign Right Movement and I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing organized about this group. It is also misleading to consider these people as right wingers. They are splinter groups who specialize in "Paper Terrorism" by inundating our court system with frivolous lawsuits. They will squat on property and claim that they do not follow the laws of our land. They will have a pseudo attorney draw up legal documents, often forcing the legal property owner to spend thousands of dollars in attorneys fighting this claim. The FBI has actually dubbed this as "paper terrorism". There may be isolated incidents where they have become violent when encountered by law enforcement but they are no more than con artists. Their main problem is with law enforcement and our judicial system. They eventually lose the battle after the judges sign a contempt order and they move on to their next target.

To say these people are right wing and associate them with Republicans is outrageous dude. These people have no party affiliation and are nothing more than a rural form of Occupy Wall Street. They want nothing to do with our justice system much less political parties.

Terrorists? Maybe but a huge difference in what they do and what you insinuate they do.

Lol, it's not name calling man. It's simply the truth. You come up with the most ridiculous arguments. Black people are not an organization, they are a race.

Nah, you conspiracy theorists haven't owned anyone in your lives, lol. I didn't write the report, the Department of Homeland Security did. Take it up with them if you don't agree with what they are saying.

Got any tips on some fixed games tonight?

Ak, these are facts man, not theory. Since 2000, The Sovereign Rights Movement have killed 6 people. As unfortunate as that is, it is far from an organized terrorist group...unless you consider Paper Terrorism a threat to our lives or society. They are a freakin pain in the ass but they are far from organized. Read this article and let me know if you have any questions, it is a couple of years old but factual.

No offense, but your opinion of what is an extremist or terrorist organization is completely meaningless to me. Even the KKK doesn't consider themselves extremist. I'll listen to the DHS. Thanks though.

This is the same group that put Dr. Ben Carson on their list because of his comments on marriage should only be between a man and woman., the exact same stance that Obama took in 2008.

How in the hell could any rational person believe anything this group puts out?

Don't you ever question anything?

I question everything. Which has lead me to the realization that people defending terror groups because they only killed 6 people should not be trusted over the DHS.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC, the source for the map you produced in post #1) Ben Carson is a terrorist because he believes that marriage should be between a man and woman. Obama states the same thing in 2008 and skates with no title.

Thoughts please
