...or so I read in a Mississippi's newspaper...I can't believe it, I lived in Biloxi some years ago and it was a nice peaceful little town, a great tourist spot for those who love gambling. I know ticos who work and live there. God help them.

I wish people would post more replies to this thead. Apparently this Katrina Storm is worse than Camille and Hurricane Dona in Miami 1968. Hurricane Donna literaly picked up seven square miles of ocean and poured into South Florida. However, today people are better prepared. I sure hope for the best for all of these fine people in the states directly affected by Katrina. I wish there was a way to help all those people, but it is difficult even for the Natioanl Gurad, maily due to access. Anybody have any ideas on how to help these people that are stranded stateside....:money8:

Where's the aid from other parts of the world? The US gave over 1.5 BILLION for Tsunami aid....now look how many are willing to help us out from abroad...

MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.
"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.
Putin asked Bush to extend his condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the disaster.
"Accept my sincere words of regret in connection with the natural calamity in the USA. I know that hurricane Katrina, which swept the southeast coast of the country, resulted in deaths, left tens of thousands of Americans without roofs over their heads, and caused substantial damage to the region's economy ," the message said.

This is really upsetting to watch on TV, I can't even begin to fathom what it must be like to actually be there.


People are chanting for help in unison, help seems to be no where right now there is little to nothing to help sustain things while help tries to get there.

It is too dangerous to just walk out becuase if you run into an area where the water level changes you can become trapped and possibly die.

I wish I knew some people from the area. I have 3 empty bedrooms and would be proud to let somebody stay here. These folks family and friends have to step up and bring them in. Staying in the Astrodome for a few months is not the answer.

The federal goverment is really screwing this up. If I have to hear the head of FEMA say one more time "I didn't know about the people in the Convention Center"....I'm going to puke.

Thousands of concentrated people in one spot and they didn't know??? People are dying who shouldn't.

I saw that. They put another body right next to her. These people are walking around in their own feces. They have been there for FOUR DAYS!!! We're not talking about going around the world to help people....It's NEW ORLEANS!

I don't know who most of the blame should fall on (probably the governor and\or the feds), but I have never seen a situation where it took so long to get help where it's needed.

Somebody really, really dropped the ball here.

Did noone know the hurricane was coming? why couldnt the relief people <red cross, fema, etc> have something planned for this...like hundreds of trucks full of water and food about 4-5 hrs away, ready to be leaving their waiting grounds on the word go and deliver the needed items. i think everyone knew it was coming a few days ahead of time and knew it was gonna be at least horrible, not to add disasterous. and letting the prisoners out cause they couldnt keep them locked up? ugh, looting and violence multipled with prisoners on the loose too. its so disgusting and very sad to see this goings on. but really, i am stumped as to why suppies werent being put out there sooner. my heart esp goes out to the poor children and sick people.
