Destin. Been going there with the family for 12 years. It is a traffic mess but you will be good later in August.

We stay about 12 miles east of Destin in Miramar Beach at a resort called Tops'l Beach Resort, right next to Jerry Jones's house and a State Park called Tops'l Preserve, good location and not as crowded. May want to check out Navarre Beach, a few miles west of Destin but a close drive in.

The drive is brutal for us but the reward is excellent

Funny. We are at Tops'l. Tennis court 10 feet from our condo.... love it.

Zit, check out these restaurants: The Back Porch and Aj's. Aj's is right on the harbor. Last year i took my son on a half day charter fishing trip. Caught a couple grouper and Snapper and Aj's cooked them right up for us. Also have live bands in the evenings

You will have a blast, it is my favorite vacation spot.

Have fun man, the water is clear and warm.

Do you have a recommendation on fishing charters? One of my sons is dying to go...

There are so many but we went on a 4 hour trip on The Suzie Q. If possible, pay more for fewer people, it would be worth it. You are almost guaranteed to catch several. They cut the Red Snapper season so I am not sure about those but grouper and other snappers are always easy to catch..groupers are tough fighters but worth the trouble.

If you have a chance get to the docks when they come in and see which boat brings in the most before you decide

Own a place in Miramar beach, Seascape. It's an older complex and doesn't look over the beach unless you are in one of the two high rises. There is a parking lot in the complex that is right next to the beach....just have to walk over the street. Our place is on the golf course (which is fun, but nothing special). If you stay at Seascape, you will be right at the whales tail which is a great little beach bar. Water will be clear. It may have some algae in it that time of the year. If you go after school starts the crowds will be cut in half.

If you want to fish, I have been using the boat called Twilight for years. Robert is the captain. He will put you on fish. Grouper is what you want to catch.

If you want less crowds and a nicer place, I recommend staying at Seaside. It's beautiful.

We stay at Beach Manor. It is a 6 mile run or walk to Tops'l Preserve State Park beach entrance. Facing the beach, take a left and keep on going. You will see Jerry Jones's house, it is the last house on the beach before the preserve. He works out at the tops'l gym when he is in town.

If you drive east on 98 to a town called Watercolor there is a decent restaurant called Stinky's. Worth checking it out.

Good times ahead.

Love to see that yellow flag. Not sure how old your kids are but you can snorkle about 30 yards out and find all kinds of beach gear and other interesting things. Sunglasses are always a good find. The good thing about the water is that you can see everything around you and the bad thing about the water is you can see everything around you. I have seen some pretty good size sting rays close to shore.

If you take a left at the steps you can hit the Beach Manor pool, less crowded and not monitored but with a beach like that I would stay on the coast. Enjoy it zit, time will fly by
