DERBY DAY AT THE DOWNS !!!!

Well, judgement day for the 3yo's is here !! All the talk, all the posturing and all the prepararation is done ..............it's time to settle it on the track !!! Unfortunately, the track is a quagmire due to some heavy rain , so we can look forward to the obligatory "he didn't really handle the track today " excuses from the losers, but , there ARE a few who are quite happy with the rain today ..........But before the main event, there are 9 good races filled with some real talent to decipher, which makes this racing's second biggest day of the year !!!
Made a few bets yesterday, but came up short overall, finishing in the red for the day, but horseplayers are nothing if not persistent, stubborn and eternally optimistic !!! So, that being said, lets see if THE RX has some handicappers well versed in the SPORT OF KINGS !!!
Gonna post some thoughts on races 1-9, and hope to get lucky, hit a number or two, and take a shot at America's Greatest Race !!! As always, I welcome any and all thoughts/opinions on any races as i'm gettin old, but never too old to take well meant, thoughtful opinions as part of the handicapping process. There have GOT to be some sharpies here at the RX who can pick a pony or two !!!!! Good luck today !!!

RACE 3 #3 DEFY LOGIC Has the look of a horse who has figured it out as a 4 yo.....tries EVERY time and likes the off going .........his race 3 back , his first try against winners, was run in the slop at FG and he did'nt disappoint(98 Beyer speed fig.)............winning first try vs. winners is not easy to do, and he didnt break well , yet still won easy (3 1/2 lengths at 5 1/2 furlongs )......was bumped hard in his last against MINISTER'S WILDCAT and the outside horse here , SMOOTH AS SILVER but got within 2 1/2 lenths at the top of the stretch.....can see him near the pace here and proving best in the lane .........

race 3 DEFY LOGIC broke badly, as usuaL, was rushed into contention, and had nothing left in the drive........

race 7 gonna spread a pick 4 here........34689 with 23 with 156910 with 3,8,10,11,12,18....ticket cost =$150.00

race 8 #2 RANDEROO........thinjk this filly might still have some improvement in her, and can't see any value w/ AZERI, other than on pick 4 ticket ...........

race 9 #1 PERFECT SOUL .......has won over a million dollars on the grass and MAY fall trough the cracks in the wagering here........Attfield legged him up at a mile, and now he stretches out to a distance he's had success at before ...........using in WPS slots and exactas up and down with the 2,5,6,7,9,10

RANDAROO...........popped and stopped, AZERI second ........



race 10 #10 IMPERIALISM ........gonna go with the battle tested horse here as he ran 11 times as a 2yo and 4 times this year..........has run well on an off track and has the running style to win this if pace is honest. Really liked the way he was finishing in the S.A, Derby , and see possibly a similar scenario here..........He may not be the most talented horse in the field , but then, the best horse rarely wins this race ........I think the foundation he's built over those 15 races will serve him well in late stretch today.......I have futures money on CLIFFS EDGE(20-1) and MINISTER ERIC(30-1) so will use the 10 horse with the 3,7,8,11,12,16,18 up and down in the exacta $140.00 ($10.00ex.) and key the 10 in all spots in the trifecta with the same horses, $252.00($2 tri) and $100 WPS on the 10......GO BABY GO !!! GOOD LUCK WHOEVER YOU HAVE TODAY !!!!
