Depp Blasts 'Dumb' America
Actor Johnny Depp says he is quitting America because the country is "dumb".He says the political climate post-September 11 has forced him and his family out.

The star of Edward Scissorhands said he, his wife Vanessa Paradis and two children were staying put in the south of France.

In an interview with the German magazine Stern, he compared his homeland to a "dumb puppy with big teeth".

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.

"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."

The 40-year-old, who stars in the Pirates of the Caribbean, slammed George Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the US-led war in Iraq.

"I was ecstatic they re-named French Fries as Freedom Fries. Grown men and women in positions of power in the US government showing themselves as idiots," he said.

Its good that Depp had found a career that requires no intelligence, otherwise he'd be in big trouble.

it cracks me up that an actor with a history of drug problems and posters in an offshore gambling forum have the balls to critize the american government and its policies.

He shouldn't be allowed back in the country. Revoke his citizenship and tell him to go 21 Jumpstreet off a bridge. Sick and tired of these left wing Hollywood types.

Perhaps the people who believe drug-use and gambling invalidate one's political opinions are ruining this country.

More power to him. Depp has freedom of speech and delldude has the same freedom to say the idiocies posted above.

igetp2s...acting requires no intelligence? Tell that to versed Shakespearean actors.

I agree w/ you. Depp is right on the money.
He is a lot smarter than most of those idiots in congress.

Or at least a lot more observant, or ballsy; or because he's not receiving payoffs from Bechtel and Halliburton.

fsb, i don't think it invalidates someone's opinion...i just don't like being talked down to by an actor with a drug problem. its not just johnny depp...i have martin sheen, sean penn, danny glover, janine garofilo telling me how dumb i am and how corrupt our leadership is. hilarious. you get a couple of hit movies or c/ds, then you somehow understand the world and know excatly how it should be run.

and, i just personally find it funny how everyone in this forum is so in tune with the geo-politcal climate that they can make such trustworthy claims like "bush is a moron" and "american's are dumb".

If you didn't think his drug use invalidates his opinion you would have merely said "I don't like being talked down to.".

A good chunk of Americans talk politics everyday. We are doing it right here (even though you don't seem to think we are qualified to). You just hear from Johnny Depp and Sean Penn a lot because the country has an unholy obsession with celebrity.

Would you like us to have to present our college degrees when signing up for a posting forum? Honestly, it's useless arguing with you as you seem to think that we are all discussing things that are over our heads.

fsb, these things are all clearly over our heads. yours, mine, and johnny depp's. we have elected public officials to make decisions for our country. decisions like when to raise taxes, when to go to war, when to change the laws. these officals are not perfect but, for these "celebrities" to get up on a pedistal and arrogantly tell me the americans (me being one) are dumb and that bush & congress have no idea what they're doing is laughable.

you and i went head to head in the sportbet baseball competition...you won. that may mean you are a better capper than me (that week anyway) but it does not mean you should tell me how to raise my kids or manage my money...right? for these actors and musicians to get up there and act like they know it all and that the government is either on the take or just plain stupid is really too much. they should thank God every day that they live in a country that allows them to preach that nonsense and not end up in jail for the rest of their lives.

also, i mentioned depp's drug problem not because having a drug problem invalidates one's opinion. i brought it up because developing a drug problem seems "dumb".

i don't like being talked down to. but i really don't like being talked down to and called "dumb" by someone who has done one of the "dumbest" things you can do.

After reading blue edwards posts i have to agree with Depp, there are just too many dumb people in america. i mean look at Bush, the dumbest president ever, how dumb do you have to be to vote and support for this scumbag after all the sutpid things this clown has said and done to this country.

Come on you have to at least admit that Bush lied to us to get us into this war.

The republicans were screaing Impeach when Clinton lied about who he was having sex with, but they dont care that Bush has blatanly lied to get us into a war that we might not be able to get out of for years.

I hope to God Bush doesnt get reelected. Elect a different Republican, a Democrat or an Independent. I dont really care, but I am very worried about the future of this country if Bush gets another 4 years. He has done so much damage already in just 3 years.

This would be great...but it's not really how a democracy should work.

And I would tire of being a sock puppet...

Well...

It will not work well with its citizens sleeping that's for sure.
Participation and interest on both sides (governing and governed) is what makes a democracy work- apart from a clear and just constitution. The moment the citizenry claims itself to be too foolish or lazy to get involved and understand the goings on of government is the moment that said people are ruled...not governed.
Would you prefer a monarchy? What makes it worth voting if you vote for someone whose actions mean nothing (i.e. you fail or refuse to research/understand their actions) to you?

rfc, what makes you think i would prefer anything other than what we have? i simply asked you how you think a democracy should work.

scorpion, i am to take from your comments that i am "DUMB"? why is that exactly? is it because i hold an opposing viewpoint? so, if i agreed with your opinion, i'd cease being "DUMB"? if i see eye-to-eye with you on every subject, would that make me a genius?

thanks in advance for your well-thoughtout, intelligent response.
