I've built a demo Excel sheet for Newbies to use. It only contains sheet for 2 books & the usages *should be* self explanitory. Although if it's not I will assist.

To run this you'll need Macros enabled. (The Shrink will vouch for my Integrity) To enable Marcros you'll need to click "Tools"/"Macro"/"Security..." A popup window should appear. click the "Low" button & then click ok. You'll need to then close Excel & reopen the file.

This has only been tested in Excel 2000.

lander what is the easiest way to learn how to use macros and or visual basic for the do it yourselfer? Should I buy the MS Step by Step manual, just dive in with the MS Running manual or other? Thanks.

2006,
I've dealt with java & C++ for 8 years now, so honestly VBA (excel VB) is kind of "dumbing down" for me ... it's more pretty/less power if you will. The point is that I kind of know what to expect .. so all I do is record Macros & check out the code ... if I'm really stumped then I search the net.

If I were to start learning VBA w/o any background of coding experice I would definately by a "step by step" type of book .. something beginner. It will probably cover 95% of anything you want to achieve anyways.

Once you get going though - the best trick is the record macros ... it's a quick way to look up property names, methods, etc ..

Sorry I'm not more helpful, my true niche lies with Sun/Java stuff not MS .. although I can trudge through it if need be.

GL sir

There are learning CD's and classes in larger metropolitan areas to teach you the details of both excel and access. The big problem with the classes is that you don't know enough to properly learn, and by the time you start chalking up some worthy experience, you've forgotten half of what they taught you.
I do fairly well in excel, but access is still a killer for me - especially setting files up!

Good luck to you - and remember that persistance will pay of!

If this is not working properly for anyone double check these -

Are you selecting "B" from the drop down Menu? or just typing it?
Do you have Office 2000?
Did you change the Macro Security Settings to Low?
If you click "Tools"/"Add-Ins" from the Excel menu, do
you have "Analysis ToolPak", "Analysis ToolPak - VBA",
"Conditional Sum Wizard", and "Solver Add in" checked?

You can tell if it's working by selecting 'B' (for Bet) from the '?' column. If you do this the row should highlight itself in green until the wager is graded by selecting anything other than 'P'(pending) from the 'R*' (result) column.
Let me know if the rows are highlighting & the stats are calculating normally. If not it could be a settings issue.

Lander...thanks for your help. I realized I dont have Office 2000 and that's probably the root of my problem.

lander-

thanks for posting this. looks great and is working great, but I was wondering if you knew how to disable the password protection so I can add a few more worksheets for all of my books?

I will keep playing with it, but it asks for a password and I have no idea what it might be.

thanks again
