Northwestern was down 34-30 to Ohio State when they lined up on their own 8-yard-line with just enough time for one final desperate play to beat the Buckeyes on Oct. 5. It was a nationally televised back-and-forth matchup of two previously unbeaten teams, but people who put money on the Buckeyes were not celebrating: Vegas set the line at seven points, so the impending four-point victory after the final play would mean they'd lose their money.

Good article - the guy must tech up.

Back when I did it I made huge mistakes:
Never changed lines, in fact used the morning line from the daily paper and allowed players to leave voice-mail msgs with there plays
didn't limit anyone.
didn't layoff any plays

Not laying off plays is not a mistake... as long as you're properly funded... I can expand on this is need be.

I think managing what you can handle is important and laying off is fine - just live with the results.

Good read. So how much of a BR would someone taking action need to start out with 10 people. And what limit would you set per play.

Hard to say. I had almost no bankroll as i was just figuring most gamblers are just losers (another one of my mistakes). You would have to start small on limits and make changes based on getting to know your people. There will always be non-payers just part of the business as well as bookies that like myself that go out of business and stiff everyone at the end. Those 10 people would grow really fast as the article stated friends of friends and etc... doesn't take much work to grow the business but it is a lot of work and you do need to stay on top of things and manage well. I still run a small parlay card operation and have very little risk involved and have many options on how to play those bets mostly placing them online at better odds than I am giving.
