Chico Ruiz stole home....the radio announcer's voice kept repeating that fateful line..but as I had for most of that September in 1964, I had gone to bed with my trusty transistor radio under the covers, volume low enough so that my Mom wouldn't catch on...Ruiz stole home and the Phillies lost...the terrible cruel slide had begun...

I awoke with the same question each September morning from my Mom, did they win last night..I always answered her no, but they will win tonight...

The Phils were always limited to one all star during those early 60's..(league rule) but they had 3 in 1964..Bunning, Short, and Johnny Callison..Callison, today a Philly bartender, hit a three run homer to win the all star game in the ninth inning off A Red Sox pitcher by the name of Dick Radatz...

So after Ruiz stole home, the Phillies lost nine more in a row...I wish I had a nickle for everyone who has reminded me about those September days in 1964...

I remember Jim Bunning and his perfect game, I also remember Rick Wise winning the second game of that Sunday doubleheader on Father's Day...

Which brings me to the happiest day of my life in October of 1980..I was actually at that game when the Phils beat the Royals for the World Series, a wedding present from my brother because I got married the very next day...I probably experienced what every Red Sox fan felt when they finally won after 60 odd years or so...

So today in 2008, I am still waiting for that next world championship...it's funny some of the things I have remembered from this thread....thanks Wil.....and thanks to all the Phillie players and fans back in 1964 for a great summer...

Yeah, it was your favorite SS, Steve Jeltz who was the first Phillie to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game.

OK, one more.

Who was on the mound in 1993 when the Phillies clinched the NL pennant?
