Considering some early models had the death toll in the US as high as 2.2 million, I would consider the low death rate a Trump success story and an outstanding campaign commercial

Ok....but a tad misleading....because yes ONE of the EARLY models (not most of them!)
did suggest a possibility
of as many as 2.2 MILLION deaths

BUT that was *IF* no lockdown and/or other mitigation measures....

so while you make a good point
it is in effect comparing apples to bananas....

Also, the lower death numbers are due to the GOVERNORS locking down their individual states --- not trump. THEY get the credit for making the tough, unpopular calls to protect THEIR citizens -- trump was alrgely against it...

Further, a well respected university research consortium concluded that up to 84% of the deaths could have been prevented with faster action by TRUMP to fully block the borders from all traffic.... Thus, the almost 120,000 dead in only 3 months is a massive failure in the eyes of most non-partisans.

You are 100% CORRECT and when you add in murderers like Cuomo in New York, that is blood on his hands and nobody else. He sent cv patients back to nursing homes when other governors played it differently. If cops can be charged with murder, Governors should be too!

You really want to go down the governor's trail. Thanks to the stupid ass governor of NY and the mayor of NYC, that state represents 21% of the total deaths in our country. As a matter of fact, the top 4 states NY,CA,NJ and IL represent over 40% of our country's COVID-19 deaths. DeBlasio was telling people to attend a St Patty's Day Parade less than 1 week before and he waited until the last minute to close schools. In the mean time, Cuomo was sending infected patients from hospitals to nursing homes, effectively sentencing hundreds to their deaths. Pelosi telling people to attend China town festivities days after knowing the threat.

Dude, the blood is on the hands of the governors and the mayors, not on the president.

Yes, sir. You are CORRECT! I remember seeing some like that too.
BUT again, even those were based on "if nothing was done to mitigate the spread"
(like we also do not do each year for the seasonal influenza.
So we have no way of knowing for sure IF those prediction for 250k to 1,500K
may have indeed occurred had the governors NOT lockdown their states all across America.

Certainly we KNOW that we have 120,000 dead NOW **WITH** a lockdown that prevented
unprecedenting spreading of the virus everywhere!!!
WITHOUT the lockdowns we can specualte at least DOUBLE that many would be dead right now,
possibly triple or even more! And THAT is only in 3 months! Not a full year yet!
Those high estimates are for the entire expanse of time the virus is still active --
which could be a year to 1.5 years or more!!!
Huge, HUGE difference!

It is irrational to compare extreme upper possible estimates of deaths that
might occur IF THERE IS NO LOCKDOWN -- and over the course of a full year,
with the 120,000 deaths we have had in ONLY 3 MONTHS, *with* a lockdown
that prevented it from being much much worse!

can't possibly be compared positively to high end estimates of what MIGHT have happened over 1.5 YEARS
if there was NO LOCKDOWN.

I am open-minded (a moderate) and willing to reverse my views in light of any new and compelling information

The point is trump gets no victory lap for ONLY 120,000 deaths. in 3 months, and still counting for another 9-15 months.
He did virtually nothing to keep the numbers down! THAT was the problem.
The Mayors and Governors around the country did what was necessary. Not trump.
As a result we are fortunate there are only 120,000 deaths in 3 months....and still counting

On a personal level all I can say to this(as I have said before), is that in Mass. where I live, Charlie Baker, the Governor and a Republican(I usually but not always

vote Democrat) did a FANTASTIC job here re: the Virus and being the last state in the country to fully open, which in fact has not happened yet,

Imo he decided to do what he did had ZERO to do with political consideration or outside pressure, but what his medical team/ some of the

most highly respected physicians in both MA and the country advised him to.

Even now when hopefully the Virus is winding down, I am ecstatic wherever I go, shop, etc. seeing the vasy majoority of people wearing masks

and practicing social distancing.

There are other governors in other states about whom one could say the same.

There were Govenors who opened up their states too fast if one wants to use the criterion and that some of those states are having the highest rates

of cases testing positive since the Virus began over the last few days and weeks.

I know that some are going to disagree what I say, but imo all Trump's decisions/motivation re: the Virus and anything else for any matter,

revolve around one thing only, namely GETTING RE-ELECTED.

This can't be proven and/or this debated for obvious reasons, namely because there are lots of folks who are going to see it their way

and by using their own criterion.

Thus imo no one is going to change someone else's opinion who does not agree with them.
