The Marlins named 22 year old Alejandro de Aza the starting center fielder for opening day. Following on the heels of Reggie Abercrombie last year, the Fish aren't afraid to take a raw talented prospect and throw him in with the big dogs.
Guy could steal 50 bases if he keeps the job and is healthy all year. I don't think his average will be much better than .270 at best though. He didn't hit for a high average in the minors... Kid is fast as hell though.
He's not good at getting walks either. I have a feeling they will platoon that spot before too long. Just don't think the kid is ready to hit on a major league level...
de Aza was a rule 5 pick from the Dodgers years ago. He seems to be developing some doubles power this spring and hit .351 in the Grapefruit League.
I think between him, Reed, and Abercrombie they can find at least one bonafide outfielder.
