ALRIGHT PADRES!!! Way to take advantage of those NY pricks while the boss is down. LOVE IT! Now...just need to find some offense.

Jake- The only ones taken advantage of here are the Padres. They picked up a complete has been. Wells is done. He's a malingerer, overweight, out of shape and his fastball can't break a pane of glass.

I'm a Red Sox fan and I don't like this move at all. The Yankees just became a better team by letting that stiff go.

Soccerbob,

I disagree there. I think that the reason that Wells slacked off was the deteriorating relationship with the boss. PLUS, the Padres got Rod Beck and he and Wells are built from the same cloth. Wells can be a leader for the Pads, one with experience and talent.

LOL- Timing his fastball with a sundial, Beck may be second only to Mike Morgan in recent memory as the ultimate JOURNEYMAN

Don't forget Trevor Hoffman...the BEST closer in the league!!! This will be a great year for him as he had to sit out last year.

Oh, and if we even get INTO the playoffs, I will be happy!!! lol

You're dreaming Jake. The Yankee management has been the only group able to coax stints of good work out of the guy. Remember his time with the White Sox? Pitched like shit, inulted his team mates publicly and went on the DL for 3/4 of the season. Remember how he FORCED the Blue Jays to trade him by insulting the Toronto fans and management?
The guy can ONLY perform decently in NY.

What about Maddux to the Padres? Been hearing rumors of that, do they have the dollars to afford him too?

Hanover,

Had not really thought about it like that. HOWEVER, if any city can make him feel like he should be in shape it is San Diego. Great beaches, beautiful women, and incredible weather. The fans suck and would rather be drinking in the parking lot, BUT OH HOW MUCH FUN IT IS!!!

GD,

Would love to get Maddux, for similar reasons as Wells. Padres pockets are pretty deep, but they do not really like spending the $$. Greg Vaughn, Gary Sheffield, Fred McGriff, Steve Finley, etc, etc, etc...

I worked as a security guard for the Jack Murphy Stadium (Qualcomm) for a couple of years. I was the guy who tackled you if you ran on the field during the games. Got to meet all kinds of players, fans, celebs... One thing that you could clearly see was that the Padres owners were not COMMITED to winning..not the way someone like Steinbrenner is, anyway.

Still...GO PADRES!! Oh..and, with the first pick in the 2004-2005 NFL Draft the SD Chargers select ELI MANNING!!!

I agree with a lot of things said here. Being a Yankees fan, (didn't say I was perfect), I'm glad to see them get rid of Wells, I think he brought too much negativity to the team recently.
