check raise is the worse thing to do with pocket aces. you check, call. check, call. then go all in and you get called. If you check raise people will fold and you wont get paid off.

Rail,

With all due respect one-size-fits-all solutions to poker are impossible to come up with especially in a NL game. Too much depends on your table image, your stack against the opponent, your recent history, his ability to read your intentions, etc. I remember doing exactly what you said at a game not too long ago. The guy had QQ and I had AA. He bet out twice, decent sized bets, with a J being high on the board. River came and I went all-in, which was about the size of the pot at the time. The guy huddled for a minute and then folded, showing the QQ as he folded and got all the opponents saying "what did you do that for?". I was about to get up so I didn't worry too much about my giving away info so I showed them my AA and they all howled and said that is why the guy I beat out of that pot was the best player of the NL game there (Oceans 11). I ran into him the next day as I was going to play 20-40 and he talked about that hand. I said, "I made a mistake not going all-in on the turn" and he said "100% correct". He had reason to think I was on a draw on the turn, or even a bluff. Most players will bluff early, few will bluff at the end. Someone that waits it out until the end and then a card that might make some kind of draw gets there has a hard time being called.

Depends on the game and your opponents. You take the above strategy in a limit game with 4 or more seeing the flop and be prepared to get those Aces cracked. I'ved played in 10/20 and 15/30 games where MANY people call preflop so you need to limit the field as much as possible otherwise you are just give these guys the right odds to call all sorts of hands.

In no limit, I've seen Aces get cute preflop and on the flop only to get cracked by a set or two pair. I've been on both sides here. The latest being a NL tourney where I had TT in late position and Aces limped in mid position. I called and didn't raise since there were already a bunch of people in and there was NO CHANCE of me limiting the field. Flop comes JT7..early position bets out AA puts in a small raise...I SHOVE IT....everyone folds to original bettor who calls...and AA calls.

My set of 10s win and beat a set of 7s and an unimproved AA. If you want to get fancy with Aces you need to be careful and BE SKILLED ENOUGH TO GET AWAY FROM THEM. The guy had to know he was beat when 2 people went all in on that kind of board.

You play it different ways with different people. One bad thing about pocket pairs is that if you dont get the set, I dont them without limiting the field.

In NL, I usually bet preety high preflop so as to fold any weird straights or flush draws

Good topic. I agree that there are so many variables, its really hard to have a set way to play a hand.
All depends on who you are playing and what you know about them...

Alot depends on your position.

If your on the button/blinds with pocket aces and everyone has checked to you, you should not be atttempting a check raise.

Now in the game of NO LIMIT, thats a whole different ballgame and one of the reasons that makes it the greatest poker game of all.
