I am on record as saying that Dan Hawkins does not earn his salary. He is one of the highest paid people on the State of Colorado payroll. He is also the guy who said this years team would go 10-2. I am also on record about what a mistake it is/was for his son to be starting at QB. I took some flack for saying all this on here a few months ago so I just wanted to come back on here and say it one more time. He was out coached in every phase of the game again tonight. I know if I resided in Colorado I would be pissed off. I live in Oklahoma and Stoops pulls a boner once in a while and I would say that he has also been out coached and in some big games. So I am familiar with disapointments. Hell, every OU fan is down right now but we are still behind the team and Stoops. But Hawkins is just flat over his head and now that Nebraska and Mizzou have stepped up and answered the bell it looks like 2-10 is more likely for Hawkins this year. My condolences to all of you Buff fans out there. Hawkins has taken your program to an new low and they are not only not going to not go 10-2 they do not even have bragging rights as the best team in Colorado. Nothing fluke about the Col St domination tonight. Good game plan, good execution, and even their line dominated the Colorado linemen.
They need to unload Hawkins early on or their chances of an upgrading recruiting class becomes less and less. My plate is full as a mourning OU fan but things will get better around here before long. You guys in Colorado deserve better.

Russ...I think Colorado losing had more to do with two very young lines than it did Dan Hawkins coaching. I wasn't pleased with the way they played tonight. But the fact is they were beat on the line of scrimmage. And you can do all of the coaching you want, but if you can't win the battles up front, your not going to win the war. I think as the season progresses, these lines will mature, and Cody Hawkins will have a little more time back there. I think it was idiotic for Dan Hawkins to make the 10-2 statement. But he might have thought just like I did, and that the Buffs had something good this year and were going to be improved from the get go. It didn't happen, but it doesn't mean the season is over for them. It's still very early yet. But I do think that if Colorado can't make it to a bowl with the personnel they have, then Hawkins needs to go. No more excuses.

He is a dead man walking. If he survives this year, Colorado has a lot more patience than I thought because losing to CSU at home in that fashion in your 4th year should be considered unacceptable.

I don't know if u can say Hawkins got outcoached tonight. His team was completely dominated along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. THe game is won along the trenches and CSU had experience and talent over CU along both sides of the line.
CSU really impressed me with their Oline, they are a team that I think that I can make some money on this year especially considering they play in the weak ass MWC or WAC whatever the fuck they play in. An Oline like that will dominate games in a conference like theirs'.
Back to CU though, I do agree that Hawkins has greatly underacheived and needs a big year this year or he is done. None of the BOise state coaches who have moved on have had any success. MAybe Chris Peterson is smart to stay put at Boise becase look at what has happened to Koetter and Hawkins. NEither guy has had success after leaving Boise.

Dan Hawkins should get a jump on selling his home now. Why wait until December, when his team isn't in a bowl game and he is out of a job.

I will point out one thing that was an absolutely paltry display of coaching at any level--- end of the first half, all 3 timeouts.. could have gotten the ball back with a minute left but chose to let CSU milk it down and go into the locker room down 17... This too after his kicker had nailed a 55 yarder with ease. So we're talking about 35 yards to get into FG range with a minute left with 2 timeouts but he decides to pack it in for the half... What an apprehensive little pussy.. It's obvious him and his team weren't prepared for this game.

I don't think you can really judge what one coach does compared to another when he leaves a particular school. Personally, I think Peterson would be a great coach anywhere he goes. It's starting to become obvious to me that Peterson was the wizard behind the curtain when Hawkins was at Boise. Just like when Gary Patterson was the real brains behind the outfit when Dennis Francione was winning at TCU. Much of it has to do with your assistants and the kind of staff you put together. I don't believe Bob Stoops has near the coaching staff now that he had in his early days at OU. Just look at the early departures of coaches he had that made them a success. Mike Leach, Mike Stoops and Mark Mangino to name a few. All three of these coaches have taken their teams to bowl games. And Mike Stoops, whether you believe him to be a good HC or not, was a great defensive coordinator.

By the way Russ, have you posted any plays yet?

If you plan to do that, just be sure to include the week# in the topic. You needn't rate them with stars but it would be helpful if you at least rated them in terms of strength of play. Regular play, strong play etc.

I agree completely, couldn't believe when it was 4th down and around 45 seconds, he didn't call a Timeout.

I don't know about that. Don't forget Dirk Koetter was there before the Hawk and so you can't attribute that success to Peterson.

I don't ever recall Koetter having that many bad years at Arizona St. I think most years he was there he had winning seasons and went to bowl games. I'm not really sure what the Sun Devils were looking for in getting rid of him. It's not like they've ever been a big powerhouse team. And it's not like they've done all that well since he's left. The one thing I remember most about Koetter is when he took the Okie State job and then resigned the next day to go coach for ASU..
