The same thing happened to me a year ago.

I got into it pretty big with the officer. I was traveling across the street to a gas station to get a pop.

I remember I had my dog with me and I said, "my dog didn't have her seatbelt on you wanna give her a ticket to"

Once I told him this was fucking ridiculous he told me to watch my language and I got out of the car with my $70 ticket.

I was roofing for a company while I was job searching making a measly $15 an hour. The weather was so hot that day that we only worked 6 hours but we worked out asses off and sweated gallons.

I told the officer it must be nice to sit in that air conditioned car and take my whole days worth of the work I did outside in the 90 degree weather.

Nothing pisses me off more.

This is what happens when we live in a society controlled by the safety nazis. What can you do? Some states will let you take seat belt school. You go to a class where some trauma nurse yells at you for two hours and shows you slides of broken people. In turn, you pay $20 and get the ticket tossed. If you only make $10 an hour or less, this is a good alternative. Otherwise, you only have one slight chance to get out of it. Plead not guilty and have a trial date set. When you get the date request a set over, or different date. With this you at the very least get to slow pay the SOB's. Show up at court and hope the cop doesn't make it. If he does you can change your plea to no contest and pay what you would have paid if you had plead guilt at the onset.

Most states it is a primary offense meaning they can stop you for it. Nevada is currently trying to persuade the voters to go with primary enforcement.

And I doubt you were pulled over because the trooper was bored. You were pulled over because he saw $ signs.

Police officers in the state of Florida cannot legally pull a driver over solely on a charge of not wearing your seat belt.

They have to have other cause for making the stop at which time if they believe you weren't belted they can cite you.

Did you confess to the accusation at the scene?

Makes no sense. I have a motorcycle license why would I care about a seat belt? They cannot afford us cows killing ourselves now can they?

PRESTO correctly notes that in a majority of states, police can use the lack of seatbelt as primary cause for a stop.

That's not so in Florida.

However, the tough part is that it costs more to try and contest the inappropriate stop than it does to just pay.

Strong advice on my part as a fellow Floridian is that if it ever happens again, you immediately ask the officer why he pulled you over.

And NEVER acknowledge not wearing your seatbelt.

Finally, get your driver and rear windows tinted to the legal maximum to help avoid this bullshit in the future.

From 2000 to I don't know, 2005 they were recruiting and hiring for the force like nobodys business to keep up with the influx of people moving into Vegas. Now that everybody has been laid off and went back where they came from there are way too many patrol cars.

I got pulled over for making a turn off of Boulder HGWY once, and then made a quick left into a business driveway and they said I did not signal the second time. Cost me about 30 min. while they searched my auto. No ticket.

It is just ridiculous to get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.
In Pennsylvania I can ride a motorcycle without a helmet and its legal, but if I am driving a car without a seatbelt I can be given a ticket. What kind of reasoning is this? In either case its my business and mine alone if I want to bust my head open. I am so tired of the government getting into all of our business

They have change the law in many states. In Texas they can and do pull people over for no seatbelt the best one I seen was where a trooper gave a guy in a parked car a ticket for no seatbelt. Law reads if you are in a car that is running you need to have your seat belt on. Ticket in Texas is like $200 now also. Tickets aka TAX MONEY..
