Just a reminder to everyone if they are still running with the operating system Windows XP. Microsoft will no longer be sending out upgrades come April 8th. It's over.

So what does this mean exactly? No upgrades but you can still use it correct? I don't need to switch to another OS? Forgive my caveman questions. Thankyou)(&

I’ve got to tell it to you straight. If you’re still on an old computer running the Windows XP operating system, D-Day is at hand. And by “D” I mean “dump it.”

I understand if you don’t want to face this. You have a computer and the setup works for you. Sure it’s a bit clunky, but you don’t want to switch. Why waste money on a new computer? I feel your pain.

Here’s the deal. Microsoft is abandoning Windows XP on April 8, 2014. When you hear that euphemistic phrase “end-of-life,” it means a lot of things. The big ones are no operating system fixes and no defenses against viruses and other online dangers. For more about the other things it means, click here for a tip that explains it all.

Since the end of Microsoft’s security updates is big news, hackers and scammers are going to be targeting computers still using XP. You’re going to be very, very vulnerable.

Now, if you use an XP computer to, say, write a book or manage your photos and you never connect to the Internet, you should be fine. (Do please remember that your computer is quite old and could die at any moment, so you’d better have your files backed up!)

If you have an XP computer and just browse the Internet occasionally, without the use of passwords for anything ever, you’re probably fine as well.

Probably the best os windows has released. 7 was also pretty good. God 8 is awful. With as much money as companies like microsoft and google put into product and development you sometimes wonder what they are thinking when they release certain upgrades. I've made the move to ubuntu, which is free, for the newer computers that I have.

7 is VASSSTLY superior to XP.

You are right that 8 is garbage, and the Ubuntu is a good option.

When's the D Day for Internet Explorer??

Probably when Microsoft cuts ties with them. Just bought a Surface 2 and it is a great tablet, but not spending the extra 400$ was a mistake because of the IE. Only downfall of it.

Yea you're right. 7 is better. XP was just such a big upgrade over me. I love Ubuntu, but not ever having used a linux platform it sometimes take me awhile to figure things out. Evan things that would seem relatively easy. 8 may be good on the new touch screens computers, but for the life of me cannot understand why they took away blue tooth compatibility and having to do something as simple as open the calculator seem like a chore.
