Lee and Halladay having great yrs but on losing teams that won't make playoffs. K-Rod and Mariano working on "special" type seasons. K Rod could break Thigpen's record and Mariano has never won a baseball writers award of any kind. Maybe a lifetime acheivement award?

Halladay wins it unless he gets hurt.

Canadian bias!

I am a bit biased because I get to see this guy pitch all the time, but there is nobody else in the running IMO. Lee will fall off huge in the second half, and although I think highly of Duchscherer, I don't see him having the same kind of success in the second half either. Mussina and Beckett shouldn't even be on that list. They have no chance unless it turns into a fan vote.

That pretty much only leaves closers, and IMO a closer should never win Cy Young. My opinion is that a starter is so much more valuable and that closers should not be in the running for Cy Young. They have their own relief man of the year award.

You could only convince me two other guys besides Doc have a shot. Lackey and Kazmir.

Agree except in a yr in which a starter does not distinguish himself. If the Jays hover around .500 or below, another great yr by Halladay (without earth shattering numbers) could be trumped by K-Rod breaking the single season save record, or Rivera continuing to put up sick numbers.

Cliff Lee at +250 is hilarious. He should be +10,000 no way he wins the cy young.

K-Rod is clearly going to attempt to pitch in every single solitary possible game he can earn a save. He is on pace to shatter Thigpen's record. Dice-K would represent the "field" in this bet and has to be up there with Cliff Lee as the most relevant pitcher on the best team

Thigpen paid dearly later in his career for that record year....I don't want to see Rodriguez go down the same path and I do not believe Scioscia wants that either. As the playoffs near, I expect middle-relief to close out some games to save K-Rod's arm. Just do not envision the need to set a record, when winning in post-season would be the priority....and that includes his ability to close out games with a fresher arm.....02

A 1/3 of an inning save with a 4 run lead today against a last place team would lead one to think K-Rod is collecting all gimmes.

your not reading the post I made....I said as the playoffs near...not now. And if you were watching the game Arredondo was getting shelled and I was very surprised that K-Rod did not make an appearance earlier than he did.

What you don't think a pitcher is going to win 20 games for 25 straight seasons and 12 games in season 26 to hold the record by himself?

I mean there must be at least 10 guys that Choptalk can come with that will break 511.

can not speak for Chop, but the way systems are today in pitching philosophies in MLB....no 2 pitchers combined could break that record now starting from tomorrow on....:nohead:

Amazing that Lee was +250, but with all due respect to the great yr he has having, don't see how it can't be K-Rod if he smashes Thigpen's record. LA could end up with best record in bball and they play a ton on 1,2 run games.
