Cubs place Walker on disabled list
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs placed infielder Todd Walker on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
Walker suffered the injury during Sunday's game against Milwaukee when he collided with the Brewers' Carlos Lee.
The 31-year-old Walker is off to a great start in 2005. In six games, he is batting .381 with a pair of doubles and three RBI.
Meanwhile, the club recalled infielder Mike Fontenot from Triple-A Iowa. Fontenot hit .308 with a homer in four minor league games. He was acquired by Chicago from Baltimore in February along with outfielder Jerry Hairston and minor league pitcher David Crouthers in exchange for outfielder Sammy Sosa.
