In what will be a difficult task for sure, Ulker (1-2) looks to stop a two-game losing streak when it welcomes Group C leader CSKA Moscow (3-0) to Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday night. CSKA has survived a three-game start against top contenders Benetton, Panathinaikos and Tau, and is now strengthened by its status as the only undefeated team in the group. After a blowout road victory to start the season, Ulker has lost two closer games and has yet to win at home. Ulker will have its hands full against CSKA, however. Only last week did CSKA see a first explosive game of the season last week from All-Euroleague guard Marcus Brown, who scored 23 points in a showdown for first place with Tau. Antonio Granger (14 ppg.) still leads CSKA in scoring, and together he and Brown know a thing or two about playing against Ulker. They both went to CSKA from Efes Pilsen, Ulker's major rival in Istanbul. CSKA has received solid inside play, too, from big man Dimos Dikoudis (12.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg.) and Martin Muursepp (10.6 ppg.), while Theodoros Papaloukas (10.3 ppg, 3.3 assists) has been like a sixth starter with the responsibility he has taken at the end of close games. Ulker doesn't have the big names that CSKA does, but four starters averaging in double figures, plus players among the league's best in several categories: Kerem Gonlum ranks fifth in rebounds (9.3 rpg.), Eurelijus Zukauskas third in blocks (1.3 bpg.), Serkan Erdogan seventh in two-point shooting (75% 2FG), and Virginijus Praskevicius second in three-point accuracy (71.4% 3FG). That's not to mention Week 1 co-MVP Saulius Stombergas, who is the team’s most productive player with 13 poings and 7.3 rebounds per game. His head-to-head matchup with Granger stands to be particularly interesting.Guards Dion Glover, Kerem Tunceri and Erdogan will have their hands full trying to stop J.R. Holden, Brown and Papaloukas, but without winning that matchup, Ulker will have a very tough time handing CSKA its first loss of the season. Staying close as long as possible will help Ulker try bring its crowd to bear on the outcome at the finish.
