Gonna take a cruise in the next year with family, opinions on your favorite ones, I've never heard a bad comment on the Alaska ones. Was looking at one leaving San Juan 7-10 day to the southern Caribbean Islands. I know some stay away from Carnival Cruises, any other opinions on cruise lines good or bad.
Love cruises, would go on one every year if I could.
Our favorite was indeed Alaska, and if you go make sure you go through Glacier Bay.
We usually cruise Carnival out of Galveston, and have done almost all the ports for cruises that leave out of Galveston. We've never had a problem with Carnival. The quality in general may be a tad
bit lesser than some of the other lines, but you can't beat the price.
I always call the cruise line, and talk to an agent, as they can always help you find the best deals, vs. booking it online.

For example: When we go scuba diving/snorkeling in Cozumel, there is a certain price through the ship. If we instead get of the ship, and walk the 10 minutes to the dive shop, the price is 30-40% off the price on the ship. You can also negotiate. Also, if you wait a couple hours, the price drops as the day goes on.
I've done a Disney Cruise (loved it, very $$$) and 2 Royal Caribbean and liked both of those as well. Disney was easily my favorite but I have 4 kids.
Some people don't like cruises but I loved them. Never done Carnival some people call it the Wal-Mart of cruises but I have friends that have used them and loved it

I would say try a Norwegian cruise but don't think they go out of San Juan

Royal caribbean is probably your best bet if going with family
they have everything for everyone, just check each Ship because the older ships don't have it all.
Taking a quick look you are limited as to their Newer, bigger ships. But that's alright
Freedom of the Seas ship is very nice and I believe the first of their ships to have the Flow rider ( great for All ages )

Chinese was like $15 pp and you can order a main for each person, sides, etc. plus Dessert and coffee
we were 6, had food for like 12 people... so much, and very good.
You also need to book your shows before the Cruise. They actually give you Tickets
every show we saw was Great ... they have a comedy club ( adults only ) and a bunch of other shows
they are all in different locations, not just one showroom
I did Carnival 2 years ago, NCL last year, and doing RC later this year (all with wife and 2 younger kids).
Each cruise has their own pros and cons. It really depends on what you're looking for.
Living less than an hour from 2 different ports helps a lot as well.
I enjoyed my NCL cruise a lot more than my carnival cruise. (had the drink package and 4 nites of specialty dining which helped as well).
My carnival cruise was actually to the southern caribbean. It was 8 days so we got to leave out of miami.

Also look for promotions where kids sail for free. Makes these cruises very affordable!!
