Changing the size of the ice surface (which isn't a bad idea but it will never happen due to the fact it would mean less seats in the arena prime seats at that)

This is something that people have circulated for years .... but I haven't understood it.

GEOMETRY: The larger the circle, the larger the circumference.

If you increase the size of the rink, you INCREASE the number of rinkside (front row) seats ... you do not lose premium seats - you lose seats, but increase the number of premium seats ... and decrease the distance from the luxury boxes to the rink.

Also the NHL needs to get rid of this 3 point game junk, a non NHL person looking at the standings sees a team has a record of 17-15-4-2 for 40 points.

It misleads that this team is above .500 when in fact they really won 17 and lost 21.

also they don't know what OTL or SOL stands for.

You either win or lose

Is that the problem? We Americans are too dumb to find out the acronyms and their meanings?

Give me a break.

Regular Season Overtime - great addition to the game
Guaranteed one point - makes for more entertaining OT's
Shootout - best change in decades to the game. No need for it in the playoffs, but in the regular season no need for a tie.

Don't look now...another game is going to a SO....that's Shoot-Out for those who hate the game because of crazy abbrev. :toast:

I agree but you either win or lose a NBA team that loses in overtime does not go home with 1 point

True - but there's no rule that says the team that scores first in NBA wins the overtime either.

Different sports. Apples vs. Frozen oranges.

And in the NFL a team may not even touch the ball in overtime and lose and they get no sympathy point.

We can agree to disagree I say wins and losses only

The Sport needs Chicago... BAD!!! and the Hawks have the worst owner in professional sports and if he can hold the team down he willl... I went to the hawks game a couple weeks ago cheap 8 dollar tickets... Havlat is exciting and if this team were winning Chicago would slowly grasp it... If you remember the Roenick and Chelios teams you had to pay 30+$ for a shitty ticket and it woould be hard to find.... They used to sell out every game and draw a nice TV audience... In America Detroit and Chicago used to be the main markets... If the Hawks can find a way to become a championship calibar team Hockey has a chance to make a strong come back....

Remember guys Baseball fell off too... it is funny how we all forget but Baseball wasn't drawing people to watch the game live or at home...

I think if the Hawks can put out a stanley cup contender hockey can slowly make a come back... I mean obviously it isn't all on the Hawks... I just feel this would strongly help....

IDK if you guys are going to agree but this IMO outside of Detroit is the most important market for Hockey... and we can hope they start putting a winner out there... so the game can grow here... because I promise if they were in the stanley cup finals the ratings would sore... Chicago loves winners... and they do embrace them with open arms.

No one watches hockey except for die-hard-since-they-were-kids fans and people who bet the games. I would rather watch grass grow than a hockey game if I didn't have money on it and that is how 95% of the rest of the country feels.

If hockey stopped existing, I doubt many people in America would notice.

Hawks will never win until Bill Wirtz dies and his son takes over.

I really enjoyed Hockey in the 1980's ..used to follow it big time but now watch on and off.

Your right when they went on strike 2 seasons ago was no big uproar by fans or the media to get them back playing.

Could you imagine the NFL not playing these days on Sundays in the Fall with all the Fantasy Football being played it would be big time conversation among fans and in the media

Pens roll the NHL point leading Preds last night - they are on fire. My brother and I have watched nearly every Pens game this season. Such an underrated sport
