What is the current state of affairs for cellular phones here?

I've heard that GSM lines are no longer available, and the coverage sucks so bad you wouldn't want one anyway.

Is there a good place to go to get a TDMA cell phone & line? Is it back to the old way where you need to rent or buy a line from someone?

ice bought 600.000 new gsm lines...

personally im still using tdma...
cauze with gsm you could be localized with grps
in some cases tdma does a better coverage than gsm.. but nowadays what ice is planning is to give out bad coverage to the tdma in order to let ppl think they have to move to the gsm...
why..

cauze ice can split one TDMA line and get 4 gsm channels...

Sorry for the duplicate posts, the UBB wasn't working.

The question is *when* GSM service will be better than TDMA, because it isn't now. Not just bad signal but zero signal in many parts of San Jose.

I paid for my GSM line for six months after my cell was stolen, and ICE gave the line away anyway.

But I presume you can't walk into a cell phone vendor and order up a TDMA line like you can a GSM line -- or can you?

Adam, The TDMA lines are the only ones available right now. ICE released 10 or 15k GSM lines about a month and a half ago and they all went in a week. You can go to pretty much any decent cell store in the mall, there's at least 2 in multiplaza, and buy the TDMA phone and line and be ready to go. I'm using the v60 on TDMA and the coverage is really good, the only thing is it has a stubby antenna that i've broken twice. I would switch to GSM if there were lines available, just to get a smaller phone i can keep in my pocket.
