I didn't want to say it but it could happen if this pitching staff continues the way they are pitching and Boston,Anaheim, and Oakland keep playing as well as they are. Maybe its just wishful thinking but it is tightening up

The Yanks lead is down to 4.5 in the division and only 6.5 in the wild card.

Not likely they will miss the playoffs, but it is in no way out of the realm of possibility.

Yeah, right - the Yankees missing the playoffs??? Come on - Gimme a break! The next thing you're gonna tell me is that the Pistons will beat the Lakers and the US Olympic basketball team will be lucky to win Bronze!

well as pointed out above they are 6.5 up in wild card. if they could lose 6 games of their division lead in last 2 weeks who is to say they cant lose 6.5 more in 4 weeks? . .likely? probably not. .possible? you bet.

Although it is possible that the Yanks might miss the playoffs, they are still a big favorite to make it in. However, I cannot understand how Oly can have them at only + 160 to win the WS. What a joke ! Their pitching staff is pathetic. Teams that may win way less games have a better chance in the playoffs as the rotation gets reduced to 3 or 4 pitchers. I would not bet the Yanks at + 160 to win the pennant, let alone the WS

Fish,
I'm still practicing on my fpdw Video Poker stategy as per Bob Dancer ! I need to buy the video and practice for free until I'm perfect !
To give my take on NY verses Red Sox, I believe that Yanks will be - 160 . However, this line would be based on Yanks success and Red Sox failures in past history. I kinda like Red Sox chances in this matchup with Schilling and Pedro matching up very well with whoever the Yanks care to go with !

If it were anyone but the Red Sox trying to run them down it is a possibility. But the thing is they would have to completely melt down. They don't play any of the other contenders EXCEPT for the RedSox. So they don't have to worry about anything but going 500, even if the Sox do catch them. To lose the wild card they would have to play something below 500 ball the rest of the way. Even though they lost a few game in their lead, they still went 16-11 in Aug, if they do that in Sept no way anyone catches them in the wild card.

But as for how deep they go in the plays, that is another question. Maybe not too far.

They do play Boston 6 more times this season, but with this 10 day home stand coming up against Balt, Cle, and TB I am not sure if Bo van even keep pace to make those 6 games matter. Even if they sweep all 6 heads up That might only get them to even, with something like 6 or 7 games left, and we all know how well Boston finshes the seasons out.

I don't like the Yanks, but I like it when they get in the play offs, because they are excellent fades in the series. So it is a toss up.
