LSU vs. Texas A&M
Cowboys Stadium, Arlington
8:00E FOX
Just Bet Line- LSU -2.5, 49

It’s the 75th edition of the Cotton Bowl, though it’s being played almost a week after New Year’s and oh yea, it’s not in the Cotton Bowl anymore. In this case, this would be progress as this year’s edition moves to Cowboys Stadium and is in prime time. LSU’s (10-2, 5-6 ATS) final game loss took them out of contention for BCS contest at the Sugar Bowl, but players and fans were hardly discouraged. The Tigers will face an old-time foe in Texas A&M (9-3, 8-4 ATS), whom they met every year from 1960 through 1975 and again from 1986 through 1995.

The LSU offense was second-rate all year, ranked 89th nationally. The lack of a passing game was the biggest detriment (107th overall), as QB’s Jordan Jefferson or Jarrett Lee were unable to sustain any continuity throwing the ball. That placed the onus on the offensive line in run blocking, but news this week of Stevan Ridley being eligible was a big plus for the Tigers. This development energized sports bettors and they’ve most one full point this week. Defensively, the Tigers can matchup, controlling the run (3.6 yards per rush allowed) and rushing the quarterback. LSU is 3-11 ATS versus offensives averaging 425 or more yards a contest and are 21-19-1 and 13-9 ATS when bowling.

Credit coach Mike Sherman for having the nads to make quarterback change that altered the Aggies season. Texas A&M stood at 3-3 under then starting quarterback Jerrod Johnson, who had impressive numbers, but made too many critical miscues. Enter Ryan Tannehill, who was better game manager and Texas A&M got Brooklyn Decker-hot with six straight wins and covers. Tannehill’s entrance settled the entire offense and RB Cyrus Gray synced up with O-Line and the offense clicked. The Aggies are known for their “12th” man tradition, but having linebackers Von Miller and Michael Hodges made the stop unit a force. Texas A&M is 13-18 (12-10 ATS) in the postseason and had failed to cover last seven neutral site assignments.

The team from the SEC is 6-1 ATS in last seven Cotton Bowls.
