Hello,

I am currently trying to found a new company offering online casinos(I will be aiming only to customers in my country and the neighbours not US market).
I have the concept already developed and also I have negotiated a deal with a software provider for the casino.

I am looking for a proper location, Costa Rica seems to be such an option - can anybody help me with the laws in Costa Rica - do they require a gambling license, how much does it cost?

Thanks for any help...

There are two types of permits involved, the municipality (local goverment) license and the goverment one

Right now there is no goverment one and the reason there is none is simply because the law that required it expired last year and they have not been able to get their act together and approve a new one.

I am more than sure that they will set it up again, if I recall correctly it was about 25k USD /year for a company with 10 or less employees

Regarding the local goverments permits , it depends on the size of your operation and the location of it and whether or not the local goverment in question has any special taxes for such operations, in San Pedro you can pay something like 3000 USD every three months.

A casino can be operated in very different ways compared to sportsbooks which actually because of their very nature have lots of phone calls and this requires to have a "centralized" office, for casinos and other kind of businesses you may get ahead with having telecommuters which would ease the tax bourden GREATLY

Hopefully your venture will be succesful but one word of advice is MINIMIZE expenses during the first year, if you end up having to pay all sorts of taxes and fees and nice offices etc you may not make it, the casino industry IS EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE and right now I can tell you that there are hundreds of casinos out there. There is surely place for good companies but it WILL NOT be easy thing to do.

I understand the industry is very competetive, however as I said I am not targeting US market - in our country and few neighbours there is online one casino and only the website is in ouir language, the software itself is in english which i think is a major drawback.
