With a week to go, maybe it's time a discussion
is initiated regarding this matchup. Sometimes
it's even more diffucult when so much is known
about the respective combatants. Also, we have
to factor in what we know AND what changes may have transpired over time. For me this means
I view Freitas much the same now as I have over
the years. Good boxer/puncher; hits like a mule;
finely conditioned and brings it bigtime. In
"Chico" Corrales we know things AND we know
new aspects have been added. I love the idea of
him adding the nickel in weight. We know he gets
clocked now and again, but he is producing results with his new weapon, his left jab. He
seems to have found new focus and determination.
And as I cap this stuff, I consider the "hunger"
factor to be absolutely vital for success. I think we are going to see two rock-em-sock-em
robots going at it. It may be a strategic fight
during some of the bout, but bombs will be
thrown and landed. So without further ado, I
give the nod here to Corrales by TKO.

Im going to have to go with Freitas in this one, by TKO. If Corrales wants to box, he may have a shot since i believe he has the longer reach?, but if it gets into a slugfest, which i think it may, i can see Freitas clocking him, bewcause he has a more tighter style, and isnt as likely to get hit flush with a power shot like we have seen with Corrales over the years. Honestly though this is a very good matched fight that could go either way.

I understand your rational completely. This
would seem to be the general thinking here.
Chico's style is more wide open for sure.
I'm considering intangibles here also. Well,
you and I have expressed our opinions; lets hope
the gang checks in .

I actually dont think Freitas is a good boxer. I think he's a pretty beatable guy if he fights a good technician. I think both of these guys are beatable. I've already made a small play on the under 9.5 rounds in this fight and I've laid a dime on Freitas but I dont feel overly confident about the play.

I just think Chico doesnt have much of a chin and wont be able to take Freitas's shot. I think that once Freitas catches him its over. But Corrales has some serious advantage in this fight and thats whats deterring me from making this a big play. I think Corrales probably has the better trainer also. If Corrales sticks to strict boxing and using his jab and serious reach advantage he could beat him. But I just
dont think he'll be able to stay away from getting in a slugfest with him. He really should though because if he can then he probably would win.

But my instinct is really telling me that Freitas is going to KO him. I dont think Chicos chin can handle Freitas's punch.

Is this Freitas's first fight at 135?

Yes, I think this is the first at 135. I'm
thinking Acelino is in for a surprise here.
He will probably taste Chico's power and
realize it ain't going to be easy. Same for
Corrales. He will get rocked. We'll see.

freitas is the wbo lightweight (135)champ, he captured the title against over the hill but tough european gregorian in january, he knocked him down and won a clear decision. He moved well and showed good speed in that fight.
I have freitas via Ko but rather small, but Corrales just won the second fight vs casamoyer fought a stupid and coward fight.
No real opinion but Corrales has many flaws looked totaly outclassed in the first fight vs casamayor.
Anyway good luck with your bets

I think Freitas has big flaws as well. In the Grigorian fight he was SOOOO untechnically sound. He telegraphs and loops punches. he better straighten up his right hand or he will get KTFO. Corrales's left hook is very short and compact. If he times Freitas, his punch will get there first. Neither guy has a great chin, both have great power, Freitas has a bit more natural talent and Corrales is more technically sound going by there last fight. Sounds like a damn even fight to me .

i have no f-cking idea....i`ve changed my mind several times on this one....

i see corrales and his height as being such a natural advantage it`s ridiculous...and i firmly believe that if casamayor fights a little more aggressively in the 2nd go round,he wins....or maybe gets knocked the f-ck out as valdosta said...against corrales, you have to take chances...or you lose..

but,he fought cautiously because it takes enormous culumes to try and get inside on corrales...diego`s reach and power kept casamayor honest for most of the fight...only towards the end, when i`m sure he realized he was probably losing, did casamyor take a few chances...and he put corrales on his pants when he let `er rip......

freitas can box...he outboxed casamayor,imo...and he has never lost...corrales has been beaten, punished(by maywether and casamayor in the 1st bout)and basically can be out-quicked...

but, freitas has never faced anything like corrales...and corrales is now facing an orthodox guy...not an awkward lefty like casamayor...and i don`t think freitas has the cat quickness that maywether had at feather....he is quicker than corrales,though..

still, freitas can punch...bigtime...although this is at 135...that should negate the power a little..

corrales((positives))-----height..power...height....better technically with mcgirt...makes you take chances and not everybody`s willing to pay the price... ...the height....the height..

negatives---chin..lack of quickness..can be beaten to the punch..chin again...although he does get up and is always dangerous...

freitas((positives))...power....he has or had at 130 one punch k.o. power....corrales hasn`t seen many opponents with that capability..if he gets caught flush,it might be over...whereas casamayor just isn`t a big puncher.....quickness..a little awkward.... has never lost...

((negatives))..also may have some chin issues...a little inconsistent...sometimes looks very, very good...sometimes looks lackluster....seems to lose focus vs lesser guys...he can`t do that here....has never faced anyone with corrales combination of height and power...how will he react?...will he take chances?....he basically backed off in the casamayor bout and casamayor became the hunter...

if freitas could basically outbox casamayor(it was close),who is a boxer, why can`t he outmanuever corrales...who has terrible footwork,imo...

the height...if corrales was 5`7",we wouldn`t be talking about him...he`d be daniel seda...

that fricking height...what an advantage...you have to get close to score...and when you do,you roll the dice...

i`m sort of shocked this fight was made...hat`s off to both guys......

btw...i took a small shot at an old george khalid jones vs darnell "ding-a-ling man" wilson tonight in baltimore....

i got +130.....wilson just tries to knock your head off...not a ton of talent...but is a vicious puncher.....was thinking about a small hedge with wilson inside the distance at +266...

what scares me there is that it`s in baltimore and wilson will get the benefit of the doubt if it goes to the cards...

whatever,jones at +130 is woth a shot.....he`s more talented....a lefty....fought better opposition....but he`s 37..

Corrales has a reach advantage of 5 inches also.
Incidentally, a lot of Frietas' wins were over
not so good opposition. Check the record. I may
be missing something here, but I see Chico
taking this one.

yikes.....another hometown decision....well,a draw ain`t a loss....and jones acted like he didn`t give a damn...it was his to win going away...

khalid jones should have won this one easily...all he had to do was lead occasionally ..just enough to discourage wilson...jones used to be able to punch a little...you`d never know it by watching this bout.........throw a straight left down the pike.....jab and the left....even if wilson counters, they`re all real wide shots...jones throws the shot and steps inside out of danger.....but with some ooomph....

jones was punching like he was scared to death....

he was outboxing wilson...but everything was thrown backing out...

you have to make your opponent respct you a little....he should have knocked wilson out...he fought scared...

lucky to get the draw in baltimore...we`re not exactly famous for our objectivity...

I'm going with my boy Acelino Freitas. Acelino isn't a risk taker... he can punch, and will knock Diego down to win a decision.

@ almly; asked around; basically it seems the joints in town here don't have contracts with
Showtime. Of course, HBO is usually available
but not Showtime as far as I can tell. Hey, for
25 clams you could get a room at the Holiday Inn on the strip and should you win money, which
sadly to say I don't feel may happen if you took
Frietas, you could then call some Oriental broad
to come up and give you a massage.

I checked and the Holiday Inn on the strip is
shut down. There are others BUT no Showtime.
I even called the local cable company and we
checked some of the casinos and still no Showtime. Let me check if any of the so-called sports bars plan to air this. Terrific fight;
if it was the psycho Mike Tyson they would have
it. Disgusting.

Anybody have a play on any of these Thursday night fights? Also, Matt Vanda fights a guy named Armando Velardez on Aug 18th on Showbox (Ben Dunne will be on the card also). Does anybody know anything about this Velardez guy?
Is he Bobbys brother? I assume Pinny will put a line up for this fight and I would like to play against Vanda because he is pure garbage. He clearly lost his last fight and the piece of sh!t Minnesota judges gave him the fight. One of the worst decisions I have ever seen, makes me ashamed to be from Minnesota.

Anyway, Matt's horrible, if he fights any non tomato can he'll lose. But then again the fights in Minnesota.

Unreal, another horrible and corrupt decision. We need to start slitting these piece of sh!t judges throats. That Columbian won the first three rounds of that fight and then got schooled for the other nine.

These two Showbox commentaters are morons also.
Seriously.
