Sept. 23 — If the Chicago Cubs don’t reach the playoffs this season, Sammy Sosa probably won’t return to the team in 2004. The Chicago Sun Times reported Monday that Sosa likely will opt of his contract and possibly join the New York Yankees next season.

Well, the Cubs are going to make the playoffs. But in any case if Sosa wants to leave and NYY really want to pay him the 18 mil next year that'd be fine with me. Then the Cubs could sign Tejada easily and just keep Lofton for RF and maybe get Jason Kendall too. They'd be unstoppable. Lofton, Grudzielanek, Patterson, Tejada, Alou, Ramirez, Simon, Kendall plus that pitching staff. 100 wins easy.
