My wife and myself both love our iPhones and iPads. I'm considering buying a new Mac for our home office. What kind of problems as far as operating a Mac are we going to run into? We have both used a pc for business purposes for years. I'm obviously not a tech geek, but out of necessity I feel like I can find my way around a pc. I guess I'm just looking for some insight from someone who has made this transition. Pros, cons, etc....

We tried some macs in our office. I found out that they are a little more diffucult to use on a server base application. I love my iPad, but I only use it for social, personal use. For work, unless you are in the media (pics, graphics, videos) for your job, I would recommend staying with microsoft. Just my opinion through experience. I am sure there is others here that would disagree, but from running our construction & accounting software, it has proved better to stay with the pc.

You can always run both Windows and Mac OSX on your Mac, if you need to for compatibility sake. Mac OS allowed me to be more productive, with multi-touch gestures, multiple desktops/workspaces, and hot-corners... Unless you play games or have proprietary Windows software, I'd vote Mac.

I am going to sound like an ass.......but here is my take (IT pro, manage quite a few servers etc blabla have to deal with 'user' problems in windows/macs and deal with windows/linux servers)

if you are going from PC to Mac, you are going to be quite alright, you are used to things not working and google your way around

100% Mac users on the other hand are completely naive and clueless and when something doesnt work.......they dont know and whats worse, they cant tell you where 'x' is since they have never have to go and adjust 'x' and since a mostly windows/linux admin doesnt know where 'x' is........well, the tech has to google everything and help the clueless Mac user

your problem is going to be when you discover that application 'z' doesnt exist /work well in Mac so check the list of programs you have installed in your windows machine and see if there are versions for Mac.

Interesting comments fellas. I've been thinking about the switch from PC to Mac as well, also based on my great experience with my iPad and iPhone. But as a web professional, I'm concerned about the last point wolfie made about applications not working/existing on a Mac. I often use freeware applications for one-off tasks, and I doubt a lot of these handy little programs exit in the Mac world, and if they do exist, I'd likely have to pay for them.

^^^That was part of what I was referring to earlier. We have about $18k of software that would have to be bought for Apple. The communication & expense of software was why it didn't work for us.
