Ok this is a serious thread here, that i think need legitimate answers...Sportsbetting is officially illegal in the USA. And if anyone finds out youre betting, you can face consequences or family can look down on you. however on ESPN and during live games, and special shows like college football live, first take, pardon the interruptin, 1st and 10. they are forever talking about spreads for the week and whether a team will cover or not. And on yahoo mobile they even have section of site dedicated to sportsbook lines for the week. and whenever anybody talks about someone being a favorite or underdog, theyre talkin about sportsbetting/gambling. or else a line would be meaningless! so im confused. because we just cant go telling everyone we bet sports, know what i mean? but all day everyday there are references to sports gambling like its a normal part of life. does anyone else feel this way?

it's illegal to take a bet, not make a bet

This is true in most states.

They do it for Vegas. Betting is legal in Vegas and offshore and I saw that about 81% of sports fans have made a bet on a sporting event in thier lives.

When the bookie gets busted they don't look for his players they just get the book.

many people just look down on gambling period to answer your question above. idk where you live, but im in bible belt....

it is illegal to to place a sports wager outside of vegas. im too lazy to copy and paste. for instance. i currently live in state of georiga. it is illegal to place sports bet in state of georgia. and lets not forget the federal/state laws on online wagering. yet we reference the spreads every game and have state lotteries. and they recently investigated nick calathes of florida basketball because he 'gambled', poker supposedly online. but yet on espn they can talk about the gambling spread on the bball game he is playing??? anyone else understanding what im trying to say lol

I do understand and the reason is people look at the lines. Lines aren't just for people who bet. People look at the lines to see how people think a game is going to turn out. For example, I'm a Giants fan...what do the experts think about this week. Oh were -3.5 in Washington? People aren't giving us respect.

Anyone who looks down on you for betting is ignorant. It's when you start gambling with stuff you don't have and making it change your regular course of life that you then have a problem and should be frowned at.

yea but thats what im saying. the whole spread thing strictly comes from vegas. nfl doesnt have committee that sets lines. and why does vegas set lines. to make money right...no gambling/sportsbetting, no spread. no vegas, no spread. or else it would just be whole bunch of journalist/media all over country just having their own lines for fun. which like i said would be meaningless lol

Why dont you call 911 and ask them if its OK to place a bet on the favorite and the over. 10-1 they will say its ok unless your betting on a road favorite on MNF.. GOOD LUCK

To me, there is nothing different in Sportbetting and Wall Street.
There are plenty of people who lose tons of money in both industries. Also, some people who make money.
In wall street, you look at the balance sheet, how the ecomony is doing, how the consumers are acting, and what advantage they have over their competitors and people buy their stocks hoping they do well enough to make them money.
In sports betting, you look at the stats, how hot (or cold) they are, their situation (home or road, short week or back to back, etc.), and their strengths and weakness to place a bet and hope they win.
In sports, there is Vegas, where you have to beat their numbers. In wall street, there are "experts" who "forcast" how a company will do, you buy or sell stocks depending on how you think the company will do agaisnt that number. (i.e. Experts predict that "RX company" will make $1.00 per stock, but you go through the numbers and think they'll make $1.50, then you buy the stock hoping they do)
Only difference is Wall Street is accepted and Sports Betting isn't.

Last thing I gots to say is make money sports betting and you can tell whoever you want you bet sports. LoL.

You couldn't be more wrong. It is definitely illegal to make a bet in many states although it is rarely enforced. I have a good friend that was busted for bookmaking across state lines by the Feds. They really pressured him for his customer lists, even offering reduced charges.

Just anecdotal but it is illegal in many states. I thought it was illegal to make a sportsbet in all states but Nevada therefore the lack of sportsbooks anywhere else.

Sports needs gambling. NFL need gambling more than gambling needs the NFL.

It's what draws ratings. Illegal???? Ha! They count on countless bookies across the good ol' U S of A to draw in ratings and staying power when a team starts to blow out another team but yet YOU stay in tuned to the very end due to the pointspread.

Stop gambling for a year and find out how interested you are in alot of games you normally would watch but don't anymore since you don't have anything riding on it.

Bottom line is that the executive branch does not have the enforcing power to enforce the gambling law because of the confusion of how to enforce it. The law itself is too vag. Gamble on my friend, gamble on.
