both taking it seriously. NE major injury concerns with only twellman as a healthy attacker and khano smith + albright now missing off the team that played Toronto. Long travel day sunday...from 6:30am EST did not get to hotel until 9pm EST. temps are brutal there...over 100 with humidity factored plus another field turf game. I won't bet on NE because Joe Public is owned by the guy that runs concacaf...

Cruz azul will roll. Belize is worst footballing team in Central America and have to play in height + smog of Mex City. I'll call 5-0

Was going to start a thread asking about these games as they are on FSC tonight. I'll tape them and maybe watch a bit if it is tolerable.

No bets yet, if there is any insight on worthy action bets feel free to pass along.

Woohoo go Joe Public! How can you not root for that team:

A little bit of info I got from the Joe Public FC website, towards the end it explains the competition format which is helpful:

Joe Public FC (Trinidad Joe Public FC (Trinidad and Tobago) will play home-and-away, aggregate-goals, series with New England Revolution (USA) in August and September

Macoya, Trinidad. – The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) recently unveiled the preliminary round match-ups for the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League, and the New England Revolution of USA has been drawn with Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago. The two clubs will meet in a home-and-away, aggregate-goals series on August 26 in Trinidad and on September 2 in USA, with the winner advancing to the tournament’s group stage.

The complete schedule for the preliminary round, as well as the group stage pairings, will be revealed at a later date.

New England qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League by virtue of its runner-up status at MLS Cup 2007. The Revolution also secured a place in the tournament through its 2007 U.S. Open Cup championship, but as the club had already qualified, that spot was given to the team with MLS’ second-best record last season, Chivas USA.

Joe Public FC currently plays in the Trinidad and Tobago Professional Football League and finished as the league’s runner-up in 2007. The club, which is one of three Caribbean qualifiers, earned its spot in the tournament by finishing as the runner-up in the 2007 Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.

The winners of the eight preliminary stage match-ups will join eight previously seeded teams in the group stage, which consists of four groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. These eight teams will be drawn into four Quarterfinal pairings to play home-and-away match-ups in February 2009. The four Quarterfinal winners will then play in two Semifinal home-and-away match-ups in March and April 2009, with the two Semifinal winners meeting in the home-and-away 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League Final in late April 2009.

The CONCACAF Champions League winner will qualify as the CONCACAF representative to the 2009 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Good stuff there.
I was thinking about taking Harbor View straight up here as well.

FWIW,
I watched most of Joe Public-NE and Alajuense-Puerto Rico.

JP was running the Revs ragged most of the game and deserved to win. Puerto Rico looked much more inspired than Alajuense and were not outmatched at all.

from oursportscentral.com:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution hosts Joe Public FC of Trinidad in the return leg of a home-and-away, aggregate goals, preliminary-round series in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Gillette Stadium. The match will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel beginning at 8 p.m. ET.The Revolution - which fell to Joe Public, 2-1, in the first game of the series on Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Trinidad - trails by one goal in the total-goals series. To advance, the Revolution must either win 1-0 or win by two goals, to ensure passage to the group play round.
If the final score of Tuesday's game is 2-1 in favor of the Revolution, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played - followed by penalty kicks if needed - to determine which team advances to the group play round.
Should Joe Public win or the game end in a draw, Joe Public would advance. Joe Public would also automatically advance if the Revs win by one goal by other than 1-0 or 2-1 score lines as away goals is the first tie-breaker if aggregate goals are tied after the second game.
The winner of the preliminary-round series will advance to the competition's group stage and will join Mexican club Atlante, Honduran side Olimpia and the winner of the qualifying series between Montreal Impact (Canada) and Real Esteli (Nicaragua) in Group C.
