Biden: Wealthy Americans Must Pay More Taxes to Show Patriotism

<!-- No Summary -->by Associated Press
Thursday, September 18, 2008
Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans.
Biden says he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to “take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people.”
Under the Democrats’ economic plan, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut.
Biden told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday that, in his words, “it’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

I would think that being patriotic would involve some sort of freedom of choice. Like "How much would you like to give to help out?" Biden wants to remove your freedom of choice. He wants to tell you exactly how much you will be giving and exactly how patriotic you will be feeling. He wants to "take it" and give it BACK to people who never had anything taken from them to begin with.

What do you call it when people who pay no taxes get money from the government?

And that is much more fair for me, thank you! Everybody chips in, that is called being patriotic. Biden's plan is called Socialism.

What is it called when the tax payer doesn't get a choice and is forced to spend 180 Billion dollars to bail out broken insurance companies?

Like Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddie? ... or the contractors in Iraq like Haliburton?

It's called corporate welfare.

reagan was one of the dumb ones who didnt tax the top 10 percent and ran up the biggest deficit ever. you have to tax the top 10 percent to have a productive economy. simple as that. read up on reagan. everyone paints him to be some god and mccain said he wanted to be like him, but reagan ran up huge deficits until he realized he needed to tax the top 10 percent heavily.

who cares if its fair or not.

Yeah not taxing the top 10 percent leads to people hording all the money and making the economy go stagnant.. I think that is one of the main causes of todays sluggish economy..

If Bill Clinton didn't relax so many credit rules trying to get poor minorities into houses they couldn't afford, Stearns, Fannie, Freddie, Lehman and AIG would all be in fine shape this day. And we are nowhere near done cleaning up Clinton's mess, either, but we're cool with you blaming it on Bush, we know you're wrong and we just let it go.

If you have a problem with Haliburton, your first step would be to let Clinton, Obama and Biden know that you want them to stop voting for the no bid contracts they give them.

To stay on topic, a man who spews the core values of Socialism and calls it being patriotic is a person you should be very, very concerned about.

Exactly. Wait until you see what happens to an economy when the wealthy are discouraged from starting businesses. What Obama is going to discover is that most wealthy people can easily live off of other financial instruments without creating any additional taxable scenarios. So where will Obama go for the tax revenue that his outlandish spending will require when he realizes he can't get enough from the top because they've all adjusted their financial planning to Obama's new tax laws? What happens when he finds the unemployment rate rising and businesses failing because they were taxed out of existence. What happens when you have thousands of people looking for work and there are no businesses for them to work at? The middle class quickly becomes a lower class and the rich are....well, still rich, probably richer.

Hmm, he will have tapped out the upper class, tapped out successful businesses, the lower class has nothing...hmmm....where to go, where to go...

don't think your taxes are going down under an Obama presidency, don't think it for a second. It won't be the last time a Presidential candidate has lied through his teeth.

Do you realize how much more the war or occupation would cost if it were left to open bid contractors and the mess ensuing

When are you people going to figure out that the Congress does the budget - the President submts it, the Congress changes and adds to the budget as they see fit; the President can only approve or veto it as the Congress gives it to him.

Since the Congress always approves the budget at the last minute, the President has two choices - veto the budget and shut down the government or accept the budget and keep everything running.

The Congress usually gives the President what he asks for along with their pork barrel and earmarked spending, so why should he veto it?

This is the big question. It has always been assumed that additional profit = additional investments = additional jobs, but this does not seem to be true anymore, at least not generally. For example in Germany the past years have been really decent economically overall, but there has not been a corresponding increase in job openings, just as the increased winnings of the companies have not translated into a significant (if at all) increase in the lower incomes.
It seems the rich find better ways to use their money than to spend it in a way that lets the whole country benefit.
