I have a router, I may let my neighbor share it. We would not use same computer, but share the connection. If he were to enter contests or open sportsbook accts, would the IP match mine and get me disqualified from contests, or be considered like me having 2 accounts ?

Most likely you will show up to the books as coming from the same IP address - but i'm sure there are ways around it.

nope....your external IP will be the same...you`ll have different internal IPs (192.168.x.x) but you`ll for sure get nailed

1 ISP = 1 IP no matter if its DSL or Cable

Hell I work at Xerox and we are on a T3 line...and no matter what, its always 1 IP address going out cuz AT&T gives us 1 IP

call up your ISP and see what you can do about acquiring a second IP, otherwise tell ur neighbor to get his own....SBC is running a special...$15 a month for DSL (just make sure to get your line tested first)

I'm not trying to scam anybody with multiple contest entries or 2 accounts to circumvent limits.

The ISP would basically be the damaged party, but I pay them well over $100 monthly now ( tv and internet). I think they're the ones scamming me !


The neighbor would be the one entering/ betting should he become a fellow degenerate gambler/ contest whore !

ya, i have the same problem when my brothers are home too, fortunately it doesn't occur that much. can you submit contest picks from another location or work or something? you might be able to change IP's if you renew it from the router as well but I think that's hit or miss and depends on your ISP

I apologize for sneaking my question in this thread but I need some help please. Just got Verizon DSL for my old computer. I was supposed to meet system requirements but now it tells me I need a NIC. Is this something I can do myself or do I need a professional to install? I am quite computer illiterate basically.I don't want to get into a new computer as of yet. I just want to improve on what I have right now(dialup). Thanks for any suggestions.

It's really pretty easy-especially if you get one that Windows has drivers for and can "auto install".

Go buy a nice generic 3Com network card......probably won't cost ya $20.

It's all going to come down to whether or not your computer has a PCI--I THINK they had them back in 98, but it's going to be close. If it doesn't, I think you're going to have a tough time finding what you need-which will be an ISA card (the names stand for the different sizes of the cards & the slots that they fit into). 7 years is ancient history in the computer world.

Baseball, they are different on the "inside" network (the one they are on). Once they go through the router, the world of the internet only see's the routers IP address.

Go to the web site whatismyip.com. It will show you the IP address that is being seen by web sites.

they all come from the same router IP assignment. Now, should a router be removed, your true IP # would be replaced such as 162.831.20

those are examples.

a router does not give you a new IP. Comcast and other ISPs issue static IPS to their customers. Meaning you cannot have 2 on the net sep. at the same time - the router assigns its own set of IPs under the same numberset, with different endings.

The only way you, Baseballguy could have this is if each time you turn your computer off, lose power, or reset your modem, your ISP issues you a new IP. But most nowadays use one, as it's easier to keep track of their customers and customers actions.
