He says he wants to wipe his HD clean and start over.

I listed the best and most simplistic method.

Why he needs all these programs I have no idea.

Well originally I figured the easiest way was to wipe everything and I still may resort to that at some point, but for now, it's easier to repartition it it seems.

I definately appreciate the advice and will bookmark this thread when I finally do wipe the slate clean.

I was getting some weird error messages when trying to wipe everything before and it sounds like it might be because my disk has a small scratch on it. I have a spare copy of XP that I will find and test it out.

Thanks for the advice everbody!

If that's the case, he needs killdisk. Wipes the disk clean (partitions) as many times as he wants. Then format it with ntfs.

The windows setup disk does the same thing.

Damn I'm frustrated. That software won't install. I deleted Java on my C drive to free up more space. 133 MB. The software says it only takes 27 MB to install. Kept getting "Not enough space" error.

Then I changed the install folder to the J: drive where I have 2 GB of free space. Still getting the same error.

Might just have to drop this for the night before I blow a gasket.

Do a search on all drives for *.tmp.....that may give you some space (Delete all that it finds-a couple may be in use)

Jake relax. Do you have an extra PC or a friend, if so, install the software and then it allows you to create a bootable CD with all the options. Take the CD to your PC and boot from it.
