Because they got no BALLS! Just like the chickenshit NFL coaches all going by the book. It is the exact same thing in baseball. Way back when, starting pitchers were expected to go 9 innings and pitch a complete game. Expansion has dilluted the talent pool to the point that a bullpen actually matters.

So a starter faltering in the 5th is actually the sign of a crap arm in the first place. These kind of guys have no place in the big leagues.
