I am sure most players on pro teams in any sport want to win, but do hockey players give more of themselves? This is about the best example i can give that shows what players are willing to endure to win a Cup:
Sugeries from this week through mid May for the Flyers...
1)Michal Handzus - left shoulder surgery, earlier this week. 8 weeks of rehab.
2)Donald Brashear- left shoulder surgery, earlier this week. 8 weeks of rehab
3)Branko Radavojevic- left shoulder surgey earlier this week. 8 weeks of rehab.
4)Derian Hatcher - Right knee surgery today. 2 weeks of rehab.
5)Turner Stevenson - Right knee surgery. 2 weeks of rehab.
6)Simon Gagne - right hip surgery, tomorrow. 10 weeks of rehab.
7)Eric Desjardins. left hip surgery, tomorrow. 12 weeks of rehab.
8)Mike Rathje- right hip surgery, Friday. 8 weeks of rehab.
9)Robert Esche - right hip surgery, Friday. 8 weeks of rehab.
10)Antero NIItymaki - Currently playing for Finland in the World Championships, has an "extensive" labrum tear in his right hip. Will undergo surgery when he returns to the US in during the week of May 29th.
11)Denis Gauthier, "serious" right shoulder surgery, May 17. 10 weeks of rehab.
12)Brian Savage - right shoulder surgery, May 17. 10 weeks of rehab.
13)Keith Primeau - Missed just about the entire season with a concussion, will have his nose rebroke to try to relieve tension in his head, in the ongoing effort to recover from PCS.
14)Peter Forsberg - visiting foot doctor this week in Colorado to see about having ankle surgery. This nagging injury probablly contributed to his groin injury...i.e. Jagr seasons ago.
15)Kim Johnson - Will not recieve surgery but his playing future is in doubt due to his concussion causing him to miss the entire second half of the sesaon...to me this was the biggest injury to the Flyers, they may not resign him because the symtoms are so severe!!
Anyway, just about all these guys played through the injuries just for a chance to win the Cup. Would football, or basketball, or baseball players have played with these injuries. Not really trying to start an argument here but imo hockey players are as tough as the come!! What do you think?
Damn, I should have put this in the off shore forum!!
